Is there a decent Andy Summers forum?

Postby TheEqualizer on 12 Jul 2007 00:15

Andy's website does not appear to have a forum. Anyone know of a good forum relating to him? You know, one where everyone has avatars of striped shirts or South Park guitar straps and everyone screams how it is a crime that Someone to Talk to and Behind My Camel are not part of the set list? The official Police website's forum is not really my cup of tea. The Sting forums really haven't interested me much either. As an aside, someone on the Sting forum has notice the tube sock avatars here and suggeted that they do shirtless avatars for that forum.

I wish there was a good Andy forum but I haven't seen one yet. Or even seen any. There really should be one on his official site...it's not that hard to set up phpBB...

I think the Andy camp should just concede to that Stewart's fan and official websites are just superior and join in on the fun over here.

I was just over at AndySummers.com and used "contact" to send a message to this effect. I am a Stewart-Girl but in thinking about it, and seeing the sentiment being mentioned by many others, I think the Andy fans should get to hang out with one another, plan meet-ups, and etc. just like we get to do here. Here's what I dashed out <grin>

"I think AndySummers.com surely needs a forum or message board of some sort. I know that it involves upkeep and a bit of work, surely, but it would really be lovely for fans to revel in all things Andy, first, especially given how he's rocking this tour, but, second, I think it surely would be fantastic for all of his fans to hang out together, chat, perhaps even be able to make arrangements to meet up at the shows, and so forth!
Thanks for your consideration,
GinaSuperCat"

Just like singing a bar of Alices restaurant, if one person does it they'd think he'she's crazy but if a whole bunch of people...imagine that, a whole bunch of people emailing AndySummers.com asking for a message board...why then it'd be a movement, the Andy Summers Pro Message Board Movement, and all you gotta do to join is send a message the next time it comes around on the guitar! <giggle>

A bunch of people are on Andy's Myspace page, but it really isn't the same as this big gang over here...

(Although, I gotta admit...I adore Andy, but I'm not leaving this place for nothin'. I wonder if we could prevail upon the powers that be to let us have an Andy-related subforum...but then I guess we'd also have to have a Police one...and it's hard enough checking three or four websites and email lists for the latest news as it is...)
On Google - site:stewartcopeland.net "your keyword here" - thanks DM!!

Oh God no, not another place I have to check each day...

LOL

We talk about him here and over at Ian's. How much can you talk about 3 guys? OK, let's not go there.... BUT, that is exactly what my hubby said about my Police internet addiction until recently when the tour talk started up and there was a lot of stuff going on that he could understand... "How much can you say about 3 washed up guys, blah blah blah."

SMACK upside the head.

Really, is no Andy's forum?

Mmmm, I dunno why...

There are many probabilities about this on the air.

Honestly I really like Andy's guitar playing, but I get another prove, that he is a little bit shy/cold with his fans...

I'm not sure that cold is the right way to describe Andy with his fans. Shy? Yes. Insecure even. I saw Andy play at the Blue Note here in Vegas (it has since closed). he played two shows a night. There were long banquet like tables that everyone sat at and you could eat dinner during the show. The tiny place was more than half empty. The was the Peggy's Blue Skylight tour. His playing should have blown the doors down for any SANE crowd. After the show, he hung out with the fans, signing autographs and the like. he was super nice, but he came off as really insecure.

A friend of mine from Vermont saw him too. Not sure which tour. Not sure if it was in Vermont or some other east coast city. Played to a nearly empty venue. I guess he was getting heckled, and people kept yeling out for Police songs during his set. My friend said he got really defensive and kind of flustered.

Equalizer, thank you very much to share with me your live experiences with Andy.

I rather Andy as a shy man than a cold man.

I know what you mean...

Now I can make a new image from Andy to me!

I got to meet Andy once. He was rather guarded at first but warmed up quickly and became quite gracious and friendly. He's a great photographer: Maybe his fan thing could be some sort of photo sharing.......

i really admire Andy and think they do not give him enough credit as a guitar player, as for him being cold, i don't believe it-think he is just shy and not sure how other people are going to react to him. i am currently reading his autobiography and if anyone is smart enough to read it, they will see the type of person he is-

btw, sent my 2 cents in on a forum for Andy- :D

Same impression I got the one time I got to talk with him briefly. Actually what really seemed to light him up was when I mentioned seeing a number of his jazz-club appearances in the New York area through the years--to not just hear yet more questions & comments about the Police.

OH, that's horrible that people would heckle him. Bastards. Why couldn't they just enjoy HIS music? I love his sense of humor in his book and in all the footage I've ever seen of the band.

WE LOVE YOU ANDY!

I've heard (only second-hand, never met him) several things that counter the 'aloof' persona that is often attributed to him. 'Guarded' is certainly understandable, at first, if not downright prudent given his position, but he seems to handle fan meetings (even the on-the-spot more awkward ones) with aplomb.

I wasn't even expecting Andy to post or be on his forum, I was just mainly thinking that his fans should have a place to hang like we do...I'd bet once it got started, etc., he might take a look and perhaps become involved (believe me, I understand how unusual Stewart is in coming to play with us here, even though it seems he can't at the present), but super Andy-ites should meet one another...maybe you'd even see the pink shoes, black and white striped shirts or other assorted fashion statements as well <grin> I know there are people who are as mad about Andy as Sting.com'ers are about Sting and as we are about Stewart and there are a few places where they hang out, I'm sure, but I think a home board would be great! He's got a very nice site...

I'll let you know if I get a reply...
