I've been looking at Stubhub for Atlanta. I have sticker shock ($400) for what I'd call a good seat. Is that about right, or should I wait. Ilooked at Craig'slist and they were going for that there too.

I waiting in St. Paul till after they'd released a block of floor seats near the sound board and got lucky. I'm hoping the same will happen in Atlanta. Or am I foolish. Advice please?

Check the Ticketmaster Buy from Fans options, too. Though it sucks that some people receive less than they paid for tix, at least buying from them helps them recoup some of the cost. Also, there are three or four ticket swap threads on TPT.

(Buy from Fans works until like two days from the concert. Also, unless you're just married to being in the first few rows on the floor, some of the upper level seats are surprisingly good. In any event, I'd recommend buying on the aisle if you're short-ish, like me - either seat 1 or a high seat number like 22. Good luck!)

p.s. I'll be StubHubbing for Atlanta too, I'll let you know if I see anything awesome.

You guys should check out the ticket prices on StubHub for MSG. You'll weep.

You can also sometimes get really good but cheap seats at the last minute on eBay and StubHub, but it's a big gamble. (I'll be doing that for MSG 8/1.) So if you're set on a particular show and you see something affordable, grab it when you can.

Prices on StubHub tend to start high and then gradually decline as the date approaches, so if you are a gambler (or just really trying to pinch pennies due to recent overexuberant concert attendance) you can wait until a week or two before the show and get some great deals on seats. The very best might all be gone by then, but odds are you will get something decent at a great price.

Of course, the more popular the venue the worse the cheap scraps that are left at the end. Cleveland does not seem very competitive, so there are amazing deals to found for that one. Atlanta might be a lot harder. I would not be surprised if Atlanta floor seats stayed above face value and became increasingly scarce.

It is unfortunate that some folks who have to sell their tickets for whatever reason are getting a LOT less than face value, but remember that if no one buys it, they are out the whole cost of the ticket and the band then has one less adoring fan cheering them on. There are lots of downsides to buying from the secondary market and the closer to the date of the concert you buy, the more many of those downsides magnify. Caveat emptor.

I'll be sitting in section 4 row OO, a super-spazmatic bargain after PapaCat found the coupon! I've been just waiting until the week before to get my tix...for some shows the remaining tickets on TM were a far better deal than StubHub (Like NOLA, for example, had good tix in all three price tiers in TM but the SH tix were way expensive <boggle>). On the other hand, Cleveland (also still had good tix on TM) the tix are cheap as chips on SH. For Dallas second night, SH was really pricey but still good tix on TM, and so on. Like the stock market, actually, just exactly like the stock market, these things are based on perception and a whole bunch of other factors that makes it kinda hard to predict in any fashion.

Having said that, I have had great luck waiting until the last minute and getting something good for my purposes (I don't have any particular section or even tier in mind, I look for best price-point). This works for most markets, so far, but I have yet to try it for a high echelon market like for say a NY, etc. Also: if the venue is like Houston or Philly, where TM is not an option (meaning ticketfast--immediate delivery--is not an option) waiting until the last minute in for secondary market sweep-ups can be tricky, especially if you are on the road before the show in question, and you may be sweating like I was in Dallas waiting for my tickets for Houston to be fed-ex'd to me at my hotel...

But one thing I may be able to say about Atlanta...yes, the MSG tickets are through the roof, but they are way lower than what they were closer to the presale and general sales...they have gone down considerably, even though they are still up in the heavens...so perhaps waiting for either a release of more tickets or some of the prices to edge down a bit is beneficial but I have to say what DMotD says about the TOT threads for tix and getting them from other fans sounds likely your best bet (with least gamble). Someone is always trying to unload extras there it seems, especially those who bought several to get the best seat. I have also bought a tix from another fan (Vancouver opening night) and it worked out great for everyone...

Thanks for all the advice. I will wait. I will also look out for the buy from fans option. I don't feel like I HAVE to have floor seats. (But it won't be worth the airfare for an upperdeck ticket either) I would also accept lower level in the two sections near the stage, but right now those are hovering around $300 a piece. That is just too much, especially when I have to buy two!

Could you explain what you mean? Are you refering to the section that's the best value for money? How do you find out the face values of the different sections.

Garsh this ticket thing is complicated. I just got lucky in St. Paul by hitting Ticketmaster, Ebay and Craig's List every day for a few weeks, a bout a month and half prior to the show.

Oh, I know. I've been looking every now and then hoping to upgrade my 8/3 ticket but then choking on those prices.

$6000?! What do these scalpers have for brains - lard? It takes about .0004 seconds on Google to see that one could easily get front row tix for any of the other concerts for that kind of scratch, with plenty of money left over for plane fare.

Hey, Jenny! Sorry I didn't see your reply until I dug up this thread to link the coupon code to someone else!

Best price point is the best seat for money, yep...just value...now I usually have a different time finding this since I;m largely looking for single tickets & it usually stands out to me.

For figuring face value, there's a few things. Usually you can guess by the seating chart, sometimes the different tiers are color coded (with some venues), sometimes you just get a feel having been at several similar arenas, etc. Sometimes you can see what people are selling at face value in other fora (like on TPT, for example) and see that someone's selling something in sect. 117 for 90$ but sect 119 jumps to $225, and use a few pieces of info like that to try and see where the price tiers correspond to the chart, etc.
