Smashing Pumpkins, good for the environment?

Postby AZPEARTPORTNOY on 08 Jul 2007 20:11

Saw this, I thought how can they play that show when all the materials used for c.d.s, packaging and as I learned yesterday, oil to transport said c.d.'s, is bad for the environment.

Smashing Pumpkins to Fans, Indie Stores: Fuck You
Warning: Excessive greed may cause baldness, artistic impotence

Well, that's the nail in the coffin, then. Just when we were slightly, slightly starting to care about the Smashing Pumpkins again-- what with the release of their long-awaited new album Zeitgeist, and its not-terrible first single, "Tarantula"-- here comes something that makes us more than a bit mellon collie.

Billy and company would like you to know that they fully support the extinction of the American independent record store at the hand of large, faceless, little-guy-crushing big boxes. They also support bleeding their fans dry. How? By releasing FOUR different versions of Zeitgeist.

Best Buy and Target each get a version with an exclusive bonus track. So does iTunes. Like, a different one for each. Everybody else gets the regular version with no bonus tracks. So if you want all of the bonus tracks, you have to buy an album at Best Buy, an album at Target, and an album at iTunes. (Ooh, the presale iTunes version also comes with an extra set of Smashing Pumpkins covers by the Bravery, the Academy Is..., Panic at the Disco, Test Your Reflex, and +44. Ooh.)

Making fans who've been waiting the better part of a decade for new Smashing Pumpkins tunes buy an album several times over is, you know, bullshit. My god, you have to go to Target (and only Target!) to get the version with the title track! That just ain't right.

The Smashing Pumpkins are on tour. Whatever.

Sorry, the story comes from pitchforkmedia.com

That is pretty bad. My opinion of Billy Corgan has just dropped a few degrees. Having said that, those monster size bands seem to have little control over what their record companies do. Having said THAT, it is the price you pay for signing to a major and making your millions.

Long live Dischord Records!

heh well he cracked a joke about all the Pumpkins fans illegally dl'ing their previous albums...I dunno...I'm still freaking stoked to see them in a club in Atlanta, but heh...can u downoad the extra trax from itunes or am I not getting how this works?

There are some good point here, however...

New bassist (Ginger?) rocks, she's all dolled up but takes the perennial bass stance <giggle> If I could drum in a get-up like that I think I'd have my gimmick <grin>

i was wondering who the bass player was - it didn't look like D'arcy or Melissa. I think she was just frozen with fear most likely - she didn't move an inch! Although in those boots...

It certainly was NOT one of the two. The comical thing was that he put a woman bassist and an oriental guy to replace D'Arcy and James Lha.
Billy Pumpkin is a good composer, but he was totally out of place publicizing his new album, thing that made us understand why he was there, at least others had some shame...
And, along with the packaging, all the drugs they did in the past, with Jimmy Chamberlin still alive I don't know how, are certainly far from promoting a healthy planet and style of living....

Wow. That is really bad (the CD thing).

I guess I was on my way to the bathroom during the album shilling because I don't remember that.
Dramatic highlights & a unique musical cosmos. Guaranteed.

Makes me glad I have no need for them...thay never did a thing for me.

I'm really glad because it ain't too nice to put down all of you fans at a world concert like that.

Has he always been....umm...how do you say?....has he always been Kanye West-like? from my limited view of baldy pumkin guy.

I liked him on the Simpson though !

heh, heh.

Dave Matthews was awesome !

Kanye-West like
Great definition!!!!!
Billy Pumpkin has his bald head up his ass, yes, but he has written great songs. It bothered me because this was an event where greed should have been kept at bay.
I saw Dave Matthews buying pizza for all the band here in SF while we were in the restaurant, he is a nice guy, but his music never did anything for me.

BTW, WHERE WAS BONO??????

Smashing What?
Man, I love Halloween! The flaming bag of poo is a classic gag.

Oh yeah, note to Billy Corgan: Pull your head out of your inflamed ass.
