There job is to sell papers.

99% of them have never picked up an instrument!!!!

Most of them couldn't tell you the difference from a strat or les paul!!

Ask them if they know what "trading fours" means???

I gotta say your ASCII art just cracked me right up, Bob...

What's got your dander roused? See another article by some halfwit who thinks it's edgy and cool to trash a tour they haven't seen?

Hubster was just telling me that Jim DeRogatis, who trashed Stew in the Chicago Sun-Times a couple days back, has a hobby gig playing drums for a Wire cover band. (Wire is a great protopunk foursome who made some really stellar albums a couple decades ago.)

I guess that makes him an expert on polyrhythms, dunnit?

I'd fuck the critics, except I'd be afraid I'd catch something really nasty from the encounter.

When it comes to critics - it's all about what headline is better. Joe Public would be more inclined to click on a headline that says Police Shows On Big Ass Suckfest rather than a headline that reads Police Gigs Are Going Swell.

MMMmmm, there are different types or critics, but not all are necessarily bad.

There are slow or bad critics without any good data to confirm it, or maybe the confirmation oppose with my perceptions.

But also are constructive critics that help my ideas to become clearer.

I have never really listened to any reviews (movie, concert, anything) and I don't intend to start now. Everyone has there own opinion and that is fine. I love our boys and there isn't anything anyone could say to make me change my mind about them.

The show Monday in St. Louis was great and I'm sure I will love both show in Chicago just as much. I can't wait for tonight. :D

Yeah, but the critics negativism leaks out into the rest of the world. At least three people who were kinda sorta thinking about going told me recently that they'd negative reviews and that put them off in combination with ticket prices.

Well I'm doing my best to set them straight. I've told them that it was awesomness on top of awesomeness. I had ridiculously high expectations and they were fufilled. I've seen nostalgia tours and this ain't that.

This isn't the Rolling Stones cranking out lackluster versions of the their studio recordings with giant Budweiser inflatables. This is a great band getting back on its feet and landing a haymaker to my cynical, middle-aged disbelieving jaw. All under a large, but not too distatefully large, Best Buy sign. Yeah, it's commercial and its nostalgic, but dammit it's gooood.

Take whatever new band who are the critics darlings and put em next to the Police 2007 and they will give them a run for it live. They are old but they are still rock. They are still making it fresh and exciting every night.

For people who are put off by the price, you just need to decide which Stadium shows you are going to bother with. They are all expensive. If you aren't that into the Police, than fine, skip it. Know that you will be missing one hell of a show, that will probably have you going out and buying everything Police you can get your hands one. And go see Prince, or Rush or Roger Waters or something. It's allright for you....

I can say objectively that the sound the other night in the Excel was the best sound I've ever heard at a Stadium Show. The Police are meticulous with this. I was in the center on the floor next to the sound board and it was perfect. No out of balance or reverb around in the big bowl effect that I've suffered through so many shows. So if you are going to plunk down a Benjamin on a stadium act this year, you might want to think about that too.

Critics are frustrated artists, therefore...Opinions are...you know the saying... Plus, several of them take bribes from the record companies.
So if you read somebody who pans a good band or artist, but praises Amy Winehouse's croak, you know the girl has a very good agent....

Just a reminders of what critics' words are worth. If you like Asia or Dolly Parton, hey, that's what touches you. Fuck these overpaid inflated balloons that would die to do 10 per cent of what an artist can do.

I dunno, y'all. I can think of some reviewers I adore (Elvis Mitchell, formerly of the NY Times, Scott Von Doviak of the Ft. Worth Gazette). It's just that, as has been well-pointed-out here, it sells more papers to trash something than to praise it. Also, it's harder to write a good review than a bad one, not insignificantly.

Welcome, mkohl!! Hey folks, m is just joining us but she's been on TPT for a while and is awesome. Let's give her a big SC.net welcome!
