Kalypso`s Tube Sock Konvention Proposal POLL

Postby jackie on 03 Jul 2007 11:43

Where should the Konvention be held at? LET'S VOTE!!!.. shall we...

I added the option of Tenerife `cos this is where I live... and is not that I dont wanna travel to LA or Italy GOD knows I DO!!!! but I CANT MOVE for the next 3 years..(LONG STORY...) I wont even be able to see the POLICE in Barcelona next September...so let me tell ya a bit 'bout Tenerife see if I can sell this idea to ya!

Tenerife is often called a paradise island and for good reason! The island experiences sunshine around the year, has an abundance of world class hotels and offers an exceptional choice of cuisine set against the stunning background of Mount Teide.

Here you can be at any exotic beach then get in the car and just one hour drive away... you get to see SNOW at the volcanic national park of Mount Teide!!!

Gio once told me he came to the Canary Islands, and he loves it!... Gio would you back me up on this??!!

I like the suggestion of a combined Italy/London trip, if possible...

London, Italy, Detroit(yuck)-doesn't matter, we'd be there. Kazoos in tow.

But my travel budget is a bit shot after this year. and Tenerife is extraordinarily expensive for some dumb reason to fly to from the States. I can fly to Croatia 2x for the price of that ticket!

I've been to Tenerife 2x to do large stadium gigs- with Metallica and Michael Jackson. It's funny to do a HUGE stadium gig on a relatively small island. My husband also used to come from the UK every year to work on Carnivale. Many stories of how he was supposed to be working but was drunk non stop for weeks....

It's a gorgeous island and I definitely think it goes on the list!
Everyone likes Paella, right? Best I ever had in Tenerife!

Me too!

But there's no way I could conceivably make it to Italy in the next 12 months. Since I'm in Cali, Los Angeles would be *infinitely* more practical and do-able (I even have a place to stay!). Perhaps the first one could be held in L.A., as a 'trial run' or whatever to get the format established, and then if it is successful, we can set our sights on something grander?

That's a VERY good thought, Krokodyle.

Like I said, I've had some experiences with organizing cons (and I work quite a few annually), and one mistake I've seen con organizers make time and time again is to plan too big the first year out the gate. Sometimes it's best to start off with a smaller event, not put anyone out financially too far on a limb, and make sure there's a solid committee that can work together and be trusted to handle the responsibilities of organizing such an event before investing in world traveling grand ideas.

Anyway, I have to run out to work right now but I'll post some further thoughts later...

i voted for L.A. also 'cause it would be easier for me to attend. being a single parent, it would be kind of hard to get enough money for me and my son, because i would have to bring him along. if the first one would be in L.A. at least i could say i had been to one convention! :D -

If LA is onboard for the second leg of the US tour, we should definitely consider something there. Like Sockii said, we could go by the Backstage Cafe and hang out there the night before. Maybe we can reach out to Chandra and Barrett and plan a private party there or something once we have a definite date on the tour and go from there.

Then we could start saving for London and Italy. By then we should have a new administration in office and maybe the exhange rates will be more even by then.
