funny story

so, i'm at dunkin donuts over my lunch break.... getting my double latte with my co-worker, chris.

of course, i'm talking about the reunion (doesn't everyone incessantly?) and what do you know... "every little thing" comes on over the radio. so, i hear someone singing along behind the counter and, brazen as i am, say "who's singing?" hoping it's a fellow freak.

this 50ish woman comes into view and says "yeah, it's phil collins"

(pause) (shock) (silence) (crickets)

i just stand there staring at her and the words "listen lady...." almost escaped my mouth, and my co-worker says "it's the police" and she says "no, it's phil collins". i'm boiling, but in total control as chris argues with her... finally she just says "well, it SOUNDS like phil collins".

i take my latte, leave the store and have the biggest laugh i've had in days.

there was a similar ire quaking when my 8 year old asked if that was the Beatles at Dodger(story under the funny lyrics thread).

Then I remembered she was only 8 and hadn't SEEN them, only heard them before.
But PHIL F***in COLLINS?
sheesh, I don't think I could keep quiet to that one!

PHIL COLLINS?!?!?!?!?!?!?!

I think any court would find in your favor for "justifiable homicide". I'm glad you can laugh about it, because I'd be jumping over that counter and flinging jelly-filled and glazed donuts at her head. At 94 miles per hour. I would!

sad to say binary, i was contemplating violence. it's a sad state of affairs when i'd beat an old woman over a song.

No no, there's just some things that you just don't do. Now I'm down with Phil but they ain't even in the same ball park. To rebut, I would have the maple bar in my left hand and swinging hooks with one of those really big bear claws in my right. :P

On a side note, here's a funny thing about Phil Collins.

During my prog rock phase (mostly in my teen years), I was a big fan of Genesis. All the way up to the 1983-ish album that included "Mama" and all that, I really enjoyed the band. I especially dug the really old Peter Gabriel stuff with Genesis, and Phil can be a phenomenal drummer when he chooses to be.

But Phil Collins solo stuff is -- in my humble opinion -- some of the cheesiest dreck ever to hit the top of the pop charts. I'd rather take a fork and stab it repeatedly into my own eye than spend a day being forced to listen to Phil Collins records.

Pffft. Phil Collins indeed.

Hay wasn't Sting in the video "land of confusion" (spitting image?) at the end with all the puppets?

That's sad. how do you confuse Sting with Phil Collins?

How 'bout this: after the show let out on Tuesday night my wife overhead some fool complaining that they didn't do any Sting songs (meaning: solo). His friend replied: ..."it's the POLICE. We just saw the band THE POLICE. Sting is one guy in this band."

Dumb guy: "Yeah, but they could at least played one or two songs..."

He must've been one of the dumbass reporters at the Whiskey that asked if they were going to do all Police songs, or throw in one or two Sting solo numbers. Like that's not a slap in the face to Stewart or Andy.
