Hug it out? Hmmm....

I know, it's a link. Don't hurt me, Gio.

Given how much I don't believe ANYTHING I read in the papers at the moment, I was hesitant to even pass this along to begin with. But go ahead and discuss if you like.

Hug it out
The Police make up in Edmonton after Copeland calls famous frontman a 'pansy'

By MICHAEL RECHTSHAFFEN
HOLLYWOOD -- Move over, Philadelphia!

It appears another place has earned bragging rights to being the City of Brotherly Love -- namely, Edmonton.

According to our spies, it was there that The Police settled their heated differences in the wake of drummer Stewart Copeland's now-infamous blog.

For those who somehow missed all commotion, Copeland wrote a scathing review of his reunited band's "unbelievably lame" Vancouver shows on his website, underscoring numerous performance miscues.

While he was as equally hard on himself as he was on his fellow bandmates, it was a reference he made to one of Sting's choreographic manoeuvres -- yep, that would be the "petulant pansy" line -- that would turn out to be the shot heard around the world.

As a result of the subsequent fallout, existing tensions between the three Police men, playing together for the first time in 23 years, mounted to the point that some kind of mediation would be required.

Ultimately Sting, Copeland and guitarist Andy Summers opted to try to clear the air themselves following their Saturday performance at Edmonton's Commonweath Stadium, where they cut their usual closing number (the ironically-titled Next to You) to allow sufficient time to work stuff out.

Apparently it all ended in a group hug before the boys jumped back on their tour plane and headed home for a few scheduled days of down-time before cranking it up again this week in Seattle.

Good on ya, Edmonton. Wonder if you can work your magic with The Spice Girls?

That has to be The Most HiLARious version so far. (And not a single verifiable source anywhere! Bonus!)

Kumbaya, my lord, kumbaya . . .

That article was just stupid.

Here's what gives the lie away:

Does anyone really think they'd not play a song because they needed to go backstage and sit in a sweat lodge or something? Give me a break.

I doubt either of the other guys thought anything about Stew's post at all, once they'd read it.

Laff, it's not like they won't be seeing each other every freaking day for like the next freaking year...no no, it must be during the time we would be playing NTY, it's the only time <grin> Perhaps, if it was like a compromise or something, but....haha....<shrug>

Ok I'm starting to wonder if the site really is still up or if I'm just reading and making posts in my head...things like this don't really help me sort out this Cartesian doubt <grin>

They just won't give up, will they? :D

True or not....

I am sure glad I will be seeing them in exactly 10 days from this very hour. Ya know, JUST IN CASE they don't make it thru the whole tour. (it's something I have worried a little about from the beginning honestly, don't say none of you have!)

Still positive about it though.

Here we go. Absolute proof that the press is looking for the "Police are already fighting" angle.

What a bunch of crap.

bleh!

Well, they looks like don't know that Sting-Stewart-Andy are like brothers, who lsaid things like this, but sure they love each other.

Another thing is that Stewart like to write to his fans about his work experiences, and we understand him very well, but the mass media, need to make things like this to sell more...

Don't worry about it, are just media strategies!

That's utter nonsense. Stewarts Blog was hilarious, full of irony and definitely something to take with a pinch of salt. But journalists have no sense of humour I suppose.

Or that particular one is so witty, that we did not realize he too was jumping on the oh-so obvious "The Police are gonna be at everyone's throats soon again"-bandwagon only sarcastically. But I don't think so.

Just ridiculous.

I would hate to be in the public eye with the way they twist things around. Instead of commending Stewart for keeping in contact with his fans, the "mega-story-starved" media just makes a mountain out of a mole hill, which in the end will probably put a stop to the wonderful narratives Stewart offers us.

I dunno about that, bella. I'm sure Stewart will lay low for a while (or better yet - he'll give an interview full of hilarious bons mots about how this whole thing was misinterpreted). But I don't think anything can keep Stewart away from his adoring public for all that long.

Just some .02.

(Maybe he should email remarks to Gio to be posted to the forum...that might fly under the radar and detract from the titillation journalists got out of seeing STEWART posting as himself...Or maybe STEWART should adopt a pen name. ;))

Bella, as you know, I had the same fear. It certainly won't shut Stewart up completely (yeah, good luck trying) -- but like Dive said, he'll have to likely lay low. (That's just the part that sucks -- we couldn't even make it a week into the tour.)

Don't laugh. I know a couple of minor celebs who actually have secondary personae so that they can post on their boards anonymously . . . .

(It can be pretty amusing to see someone carry on a conversation with himself under two names.)

Not-so-minor, too. I've heard Phil Collins used to have a sockpuppet he used for posting to the official Genesis forums before officially "outing" himself (and probably still has a sockpuppet or two as well)...

You never know who's lurking...

True enough, but I'll die laughing if Jedsoon turns out to have blond hair and big black glasses. ;)

(Can you just picture it? You show up to some fan get together and Stewart outs himself as a regular forum member? Oddly, it really wouldn't surprise me all that much....)
