Vancouver Province article June 5

I just read this article in our local rag this morning. I can't says I like the content but here it is

www.canada.com/theprovince/news/letters ... e7827cfb91

Me thinks this concert go-er/goner is beyond lame.
Stewart had already summarized this show up in his own words and we all know where he stands. Perhaps it is time for the media to stop beating the proverbial "dead horse" so Stewart can get on with beating the hell out of those drums :!:

Jeez. I'm...I'd better not say anything right now about the author of that piece because the words coming out of my mouth (or keyboard) wouldn't be pretty.

LOL ... I actually think he has a point!

Try to jump in "normal" fans shoes ... I'd feel like that as well.
Most of us have more tickets and are more likely to have some magic moments. If you go to one gig only and you get out there feeling all psyched because it was so cool to then find out that a member of that band thinks he served you a lame performance ... ! I'd be pissed like hell!

Huge fan
Saw first 3 shows. still biggest fan..
BUT this guy is right. people spent a lot of doe on these shows..
At the end of the 30th show sting looked like he was about to cry. I was close enough to see.
The band knew what happend, and you cant blame some people for being upset.though.
$50 tickets who cares. $225 a ticket ...maybe it should be GREAT.....
was there value there for the public?

I enjoyed myself totally but that wed the 30th show was a stinker, plain and simple.

Long live the police !

Doesn't look to me like this guy bothered to read Stewart's actual post to get the gist of what was said, and that he has no concept of Stewart's connectedness with his fans or of his sense of humor.

I'm sorry his feelings are hurt, but I can't believe he's managing to make this into a negative experience, considering the lucky bastard got to see one of the first performances of the reconstituted lineup of one of the greatest bands of the 20th century. There's just no pleasing some people.

(Plus, how did he spend $500? Shouldn't he have said he paid $500 for he "and his friend" to see the show...? It's a little thing, but since it's central to his gripe, I think it bears pointing out.

Does he expect to see The Rolling Stones in a small club for $20? How about Prince or Madonna? Does he expect to buy a Mercedes for $100? Sheez.)

If you bought a ticket to a live show, you knew the risks you were taking. Hence, LIVE show. It applies to concerts, theater, etc. -- you risk both the pros and the cons by seeing something performed live. All live performances have killer nights and off nights.

Hence, LIVE show.

Besides, the article guy said that he had a good time! It's only AFTER SC mentioned being disappointed in his performance that the article guy started bitching. So if SC hadn't have said anything, this guy would never have known that he somehow secretly *didn't* have a good time.

I guess it's a good thing SC spoke up. Otherwise this guy would have spent his whole life happy in the delusion that his good time was an actual good time.

gotta say

I gotta say I had some very balcklashy feedback on my latenight review of the 30th show. As if these people were at a whole other show. I had a great time but you could feel the energy in the whole building cool at every flop. It was not until Stews post that people started to agree maybe there were some problems. Why would the band or anyone want to pretend.
They are great musicians and Stew's post was top notch professionalism.
These guys are the some of the best players in the world and they and we
look for the best as it is what keeps us all getting up everyday.

hey this guy is only trying to get a free gig in Vancouver - can't blame him!
I sure hope there is some humor in his letter. Yes I am sure there is ...

So let's get this straight...this guy had a good time, but the next day reads a tongue-in-cheek, insider account of all the little screw-ups that he failed to notice. And now he wants his money back...or a free concert (perhaps in his backyard?).

Is he 12? 'Cause, frankly, that's the last time my self-esteem was so shaky I couldn't sustain my own opinion when confronted with an opposing view.

I, too, hope he is attempting to be humorous.

yes but there is also a lack of humor in this thread ... !

"It is only music"

but I think "But maybe it's time to get out of Vancouver." did hurt a few feelings as well ...

From what I read, I got the impression that the guy is far more pissed off with what Stewart wrote about the 5/30 show than how they actually did that night and whether or not he actually got his money's worth that night. Doesn't make much sense, really.

Let's face it... anyone who's seen or heard any of the footage from the old days knows that alot of the fun of a Police concert is Sting, Andy and Stewart really going for it every night. Like any creative musician/artist knows, if you elect to go that route, rather than having a perfectly scripted, choreographed note-for-note show, you're going to some have really magically inspired nights, as well as some not-so-good nights. I already go in to any Police show with that in mind. To me, that's what makes them so special and different from pretty much any other act out there today and/or in recent memory.

Exactly. The article guys says, "Is he so unconnected with the audience that he thinks telling tens of thousands of people, who have likely never spent as much on a concert, that the performance we thought was kind of cool was "unbelievably lame?"

That says way more about Article Guy than about Stewart. Sounds like this guy praised the show, then saw SC's comments and felt embarrassed that he had praised the show.

Much ado about nothing. Not to say that there weren't apparently some significant miscues that night, but this is 99% media types looking for a story.

Hey, maybe the Police ought to pre-record everything and just lip sync the whole show, like so many current musical acts. Maybe even Stewart can dance a little. This way, the show will be the exact same night after night...

Actually, I'm being incredibly sarcastic. If the guy who wrote this piece wants something perfectly consistent (and perfectly bad), go see Britney Spears. If you want to see a real band, go see the Police.

I'm totally on-board with this idea, mudspoke.

Stewart, . . .
