How it all started......

Postby kimmy on 28 Apr 2007 02:26

Well.... here I am sat at work at 3.15 AM and I seem to be all alone?

Anyway I've posted a couple of things on the forum but I thought I'd take this opportunity to formally introduce myself...

I'm Kim...

My love affair with The Police started on 11th August 1979 when I saw Sting on a BBC Programme called Juke Box Jury. At the time I thought 'He's quite nice'...

When Regatta came out I went and bought that (having saved my pennies) and saw the pictures of Stewart...... Well I have to say Sting just paled into insignificance......
OMG!! I was not quite 11 years old and had my first big crush... (which to be honest never quite stopped....)

I didn't go to any of the concerts the first time round as I was a bit young, and money was a bit tight for my family and I had no one to go with....

So I'm making up for it now by going to two concerts (so far)

I would like to thank Stewart for educating me in my youth.....
Due to him I started to read up about the Lebanon and the problems they were facing, I followed them around the world in my atlas... I got right into photography (although my dad refused to buy me a Nikon camera...) I learnt all about Stewarts drum kit, what was what and what they all did.....

I decided to get myself a paper round so I could save up to buy my own singles, LP's posters badges and magazines...... My bedroom walls were covered.

I would live, eat, sleep and talk The Police and Stewart all day every day.....

I recently spoke to one of my friends about the reunion and she started to laugh.... When I asked her why she said I sounded exactly the same as I did when I was 13 years old!!

Due to the band I became intersted in the name behind them and when I was old enough joined The Police myself........ And I've been a member ever since.... (hence sitting here at stupid o'clock...)

I am so excited the band is back together again, although I'm sad it took so long.....

Anyway it's lovely to read messages from all the other fans out there and to know that I am just as normal as the rest of you!!!

Welcome aboard Kimmy.

I know how it was except I was in my twenties.

I fell madly in love with Stewart and just could not see what all the fuss was about Sting. Yes he can sing. Love his voice, but if it wasn't for Stewart there would be no Police and where would the world be without them.

Now in my forties I have found my teenager inside me again with the reunion tour. The Police are back where they belong. On my wall in my study, the centre piece a poster of Stewart behind drums from 1980's and I have not seen this poster anywhere on the net.

I also missed them in the eighties because I moved so much with my family around Australia.

This time I will be there!!!

I was going to write somethig there but I'm just too embarrassed!!!

I watched the 'Every breath you take' greatest hits DVD the other day at the end of mine is a section Jools Holland did in monseratt and there is the most wonderful interview with Stewart.... (except one of his cymbals kept geting in the way.....) I had forgotten all about this interview and watched over and over.... Luckily my husband was at work..... He really doesn't understand bless him.......

Stewart is such a sweetie, I have missed him so much!! I can't believe it!!

I'm just so glad I can share my complete enthusiasm with others.....

Hello hi Kim.

I love Stewart's music, since more than half of my life.

And about Police, well, I think they are really good playing togehter, just to see them playing Roxanne at Grammys - 2007 http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=obegn507D74

And about their ages, well, just like good wines  If they are playing together again, no matter if are just old songs, or one or two news, it´s okay for me...

The important thing is that they are ´playing toghether again, and maybe not for their last tour... :D

Hey Georgygirl

I know what you mean!

I am lucky to have space for 6 CD's on my car! I have 5 Police CD's and one KK and they just play and play.....

I also have an MP3 player on my phone, so when I'm not in the car.... I have my tunes there too.

And when I'm at home I have my Message in a box playing.......

I am a lucky girl.....

I cannot wait to hear them live I am so excited.....

I know! Stewart was always so much cuter then Sting. Although Sting took his shirt off allot, always a plus (in his case, lol).

I feel so good and think you too, no matter if you are an English lady, and I am Mexican...

One world is enough to listen the same music.

Hi Kim,

Good to hear your story. I was also 11 when I was bowled over by The Police's music way back in 1979 :D

Also good to know that some other poor sod has to work night shifts! I am currently sat at work (at 0130  ) putting the delights of ITV out to the nation - ho hum, I suppose there are worse ways to earn money :?

I'll be at both Twickenham shows. How about you? I am soooooooooooooooo excited about seeing the boys again!

Lol, Helen x

What you think about the new style of the boys, or do you prefer old style in music?

Hi Helen..... or do I call you dafttart... Very funny name!!

I'm still here, last night, however I finish at 7am and will be back for about 4pm so I get to finish again early (if that makes sense?!)

So can I blame you for the delights of night time telly then?

Actually it's better than it was....

And I've not actually done much this set I've worked so far...... Just waiting for a murder or some other equally horrible thing to be be done to another then that'll be me for the night.......

I'm off to Twickenham on the 9th Sept and then I just had to do the Toronto gig as it's the last show (so far) and the day before my birthday. Going by myself but I'm sure I'll hitch up with some fellow fans along the way.......

Can't quite decide about the Birmingham gig on the 5th I see there are some tickets left!!

It's pay day today and I keep checking to see if the money is in the bank before I finally decide.......
