I know each of you will appreciate this, especially those that are hard core on their rudiments. All these talk of Octobans makes me not only think of Stewart, but of my other favorite Tama artist Simon Phillips.

http://youtube.com/watch?v=XFwO9ayZbfY

Check out how ridiculously ambidexterous he is, and there's a teeny bit of Octobans at the end. I wish I could find his solo from Zildjian day 1990- awesome little piece on the Octobans.

Anyways- enjoy it. :)

And Yes- Stewart is and always will be my favorite!!

I forget to say, that Stewart is the best, that feed was great, but stewart will always be the best in my book, and Heart. I try to drum like him. that is why I am in a Jazz band, 8) , and try to understand the " offbeat"

Hey SpecA!

I guess this is your way of reminding me that I should go back and re-learn all the rudiments that I have neglected. I have never done well with them...they frustrate me...but....look at that snare roll...%$#@ !

Can you do that type of thing...I know you can.

I need to practice...like 3 hours a day of rudiments.

I should get a Simon Phillips drumming DVD...anyone recommend one?

I think I have to go cry for a few minutes and then come back.

I love drums....they're so.....drummy!

Thanks buddy.

Nah, I am horrible with rudiments. It's as much a reminder for me as you think it is for you!
Never mastered the double stroke (but the MAN never seems to do one so, hey!), I love me some paradiddles and rattamacues but I am definitely not at anywhere near the level that Simon Phillips is. I'm just more impressed at how he changed grips!!!

The only instructional vids I ever bought were the Neil Peart and Carter Beauford ones. I got them back in the mid 90's when they were still VHS only. I didn't buy them for instruction either- just to watch my other two faves play the drums! If I learned anything from them, it was on a subconscious level. ;)

That came off as really elite-ist! Sorry I didn't mean to say it like that, just meant to say that I only bought them to watch my drumming heros play all alone- that stuff is so neat, especially when they explain and break down how they play certain songs.

Have you guys ever seen Jeff Porcaro break down Rosanna?

http://www.drummerworld.com/Videos/jeff ... uffle.html

I didn't realize he was ghosting for the longest time.

It's a great beat. That guy could groove.
