Bongoboy its u that I had in mind when i posted the link here I am glad u already have a set. Listen the joke is when i went to go and see the Octobans the street right before where buddy lives is called REGGATTA Circle i couldn't believe it then while i am checking out the Octobans he says to me "I actually have a set of 4, 70's version Octobans in the back room (Low Pitch)" I almost died :P so my attention was now focused on these, so i was able to get the long ones without heads and without the bottom half of the stand for $200.00 WOW I already have them mounted on a old stand i have. Now i just need to find the heads and rims they are in MINT MINT condition. all he wants is for someone to have them who will apprecieate them and boy do I :)

That's awesome!

The long one are really cool, you can tighten them right up for a high crack but they also have that weird "nutty wood" sound to them.

...right underneath them I have just picked up some small "mini-tymps". Really small, a 6 inch and an 8 inch. Nice crack to them.

It's funny how sometimes the "old" gear you can't get anymore is the most fun.

They will sound great in your Ska grooves...throwing in a "blip" here and a "twack" there.

" I said stand down Margaret, stand down please...stand down Margaret"
Cheers!!!

Hey Ska Man & BongoBoy; these have got to be one of the best instruments that Tama came up with! I was searching for some of the long ones back in the mid 80's and couldn't find them anywhere so I resorted to having some made by our local manufacturer Ayotte Drums. They sound absolutley amazing (cost me a bloody fortune)! Ska Man, if you can't find a bottom part for the stand I may be able to help as I have a few pieces of hardware that may fit them. Rims could probably be sourced through your local music shop. If not, Vancouver is full of them!
Enjoy! :D :D :D

Right on Caligula.... so u understand my excitement when i found these. I to searched for them in the 80's but very difficult to find or way way to expensive. Thanks for the offer I actually have a bottom piece for them. I think what I need to do is buy two stands and mount them 4 across u know :). THANKS FOR THE TIP for the rims thank you. I suspect this may be a challenge. Back in the day I never even dreamed of making them GOOD FOR U :).

Oh yah Octobans are one of the best instruments TAMA has made without a doubt. Coming from a Reggae, Ska background they are perrrrrfect i often refer to ska fills as.... "make it sound like your falling down some stairs" with octobans you can truely achieve this affect :)

I have a recent set of the high pitched ones. I really want the low pitch, but the band I was in plyed a lot of Police stuff, so I settled for a pair of small ones.

They do sound great, though. Once at a gig, we were playing "Message" and the sound guy put echo on the Octobans, without me asking him to! It sounded so cool!

Seems like the only low ones I can find are the acrylic version.
