http://earplugstore.stores.yahoo.net/foearplinsmq.html

Those (or similar) is what I basically use, plus a set of Bose triport over ear headphones when I play along with music. Actually when I'm by myself and not playing with music I still put on the triports as they really "clean up" the frequencies. It's hard to describe, but the combo of the headphones and ear plugs doesn't hurt my ears, allows me to hear perfectly well, and keeps the harsh highs in check with the lows, plus it seems to fatten the sound of the kit. With out anything it sounds very harsh and flat because of the small room I'm in.

That website seems to have a ton of stuff to look at tho![/url]

I have custom molded earplugs from Westone, the same ones as Stewart.
They work very well for me.

Anthony, I got mine back in '98. I think I paid a little over $100. I've no experience with anything else. I only got these because they are what the audiologist I was seeing recommended. I'm certain there are other devices which work just as well. Mine came with two sets of filters, but I'm now using the stronger filters because the weaker ones broke on me. They do a great job of filtering out the harsh frequencies, but they do make everything sound darker/fatter. This is fine with me because I like lots of low end. Someone else may not prefer so much high end filtration. That said, if you go to Westone's site, you'll find that they make lots of different styles, models, etc.

So Stewart uses these?

Cool!...do they say "Tama" and are sparkly green? Heh,heh.
Cheers.

Dunno - never looked in Stew's ears :D

There is a cool little burgundy case that comes with 'em, though.

...just look in his ears will ya!!!

Hey! so clear this up for me I'm new to these things.

These are headphones that ALSO protect your hearing?

...or are they just for monitoring like headphones?

I want protection first.

If you are rehearsing with a band do you guys have these things hooked up like monitors?

I guess I'm a little confused...I thought they were simply earplugs to block frequencies.

Sorry for being a bit of a git.

Thanks helpful ones!

It looks like both.

Is it me, or do the musician series plugs/monitors look just like the Shure E series in ears?

Westone is hard to find on the net here in Canada.

Why is everthing I shop for so troublesome, Dagnabit!!!!!!

Music stores around here have some cheap $15.00 one by Norton ?

...I don't really want to stuff yellow sponges in my ears...I need to find a real EARS place.

Heh,heh...I think I should call my band "Ears Place" Heh,heh.

I dunno...I'm gonna check out the Shures now Spec A!

Thanks for all the info in this thread...it really is important, so Thanks to all!

Cheers....what?....CHEERS!!!....sure I'll go!...you said beers right?

If by chance you have an Apple Store close to you, they should have a demo kit of the shures to try (I used to be a manager at one here in TX). I'd look at the E3's and E4's. Don't bother with the E2's.

Another incredible brand of earphone/plugs- Etymotic http://www.etymotic.com/ The Isolators 6i were incredible. I sold them to guy who owns a customer motorcycle business and came back to tell me he has to take one out of his ear when riding- couldn't even hear himself shift!!

They also make plugs and musician plugs too.

I'm more than content with my foamies! :D
