No new songs from the Police...

Apparently, there won't be any new song. That's what they say on the official website, thepolicetour.com :

Some of you may have seen recent media speculation of new Police "demos" and reports of a "new album". We would like to take this opportunity to confirm the accuracy of Roger Friedman's recent story for Fox News in which he reported:

"Meanwhile, rest assured that reports of a new Police album are untrue. Insiders tell me, as this column has reported, there are neither plans for an album of new material nor is there a demo of a new song. The Police are currently rehearsing for their tour in Tuscany, Italy, at Sting's tranquil estate. Songs on the tour are and have always been just from the Police. No new songs and no songs from Sting's solo albums will be included."

Okay, we can't trust the media reports... But Andy Summers said something about "a couple of new songs", if I'm not wrong? :?

Thanks for directing our attention to this!!! I think that this is speaking to three main things that have been picked up/fabricated/distorted in the press in the last few days...

a. The New York Daily News claiming that the Police were shopping their new already-formed demos for a contract...many people called BS on this story, but an official statement dismissing it as untrue is nice to see...

b. The numerous stories that took Andy's statement about perhaps, after the tour, new music even possibly an album is possible...well that turned into various stories claiming that an album was in the works, etc. leading to the previously mentioned story about their "demos" being rejected, etc...I mean given the timeline since the rehearsals, making new material for an album before the tour really seems kinda preposterous!

c. the rumors that Sting brought a series of songs, even a whole album into the deal completed (and the further rumors that those songs were rejected as Sting solo) for the Police to do either on the tour, or mix and match with the above rumors...

Its great to have an official dismissal of those three lines...they were causing all sorts of unnecessary gossip that cannot really be conducive to preparing for a world tour...either for them or for the fans, who should be preparing to rock their asses off!!!!!

According to the Police, they have been jamming, which I think is great...and some new songs are not *necessarily* excluded but I have to say that carefully with the official statement (perhaps they were just jamming to get back their rapport, or just seeing where it goes...and only want to go with what will be right at the right time...and don't necessarily need the pressure of the whole world wondering what the music will be like...I mean they are seasoned pros, but anyone must have their limits regarding negativity and doubt...maybe its not the time and so the kibosh has been put on the wild speculation...

Maybe new songs were initially part of the plan, who knows, but it comes down to time...it's possible that perhaps they decided to focus on their back catalog and make it really tight, update the arrangements, work out some things that they may have not been able to work out in the past because of their relationships with one another, etc. and leave the whole other ball of wax...the potential future possibility of new music...to a later date, when they have less pressing things on their plate besides A TOUR THAT BEGINS IN 47 DAYS!!!!! They have always made decisions like that carefully...they always have been rather judicious...

As I said I think its more to the other stories that take a few scraps or quotes and turn them into "news" that really isn't the case...Andy gave us some hope that new music is *possible* in the future, maybe, that is enough to be ecstatic about... I mean on top of seeing them live <wheeeeeeeeeee>...maybe he said something that he shouldn't have said, the repercussions being all this crazy speculation/fabrication...even if its true maybe its just getting out of hand...

In the rehearsal at the Whisky, Sting said that they will play songs they haven't played before...that could mean back catalog that they never have played live (DOES ANYONE KNOW WHAT THIS MAY INCLUDE?) or "new" material...at least this makes-clear anything they play will be "Police"...so maybe that will put a stop to the "Sting with the Police as special guests" cwap people keep worrying about...<grin>

The TPT News ended with the following, rather good advice: "We urge you not to believe media speculation such as these recent reports. When there is any official news about the band you will be able to read it here at www.thepolicetour.com! As far as this forum is concerned, I see people here have been relying moreso on reports from the horseys' mouths, interviews, statements, and posts (from Stewart)...

Yeah, it's very strange. You would think they would mention Andy's comments. Now, he certainly didn't say it was a done deal by any stretch, but he did say there were new songs, and an album was possible ("I can't see why not"). At least...that's what was reported. Maybe whoever claimed that's what he said made it up.

Or, maybe this is the band's way of shutting down speculation about something that may or may not happen before it gets out of hand.

EDIT - Now that I think about it, this was clearly a direct response to the NY Daily News article. It almost seems as if they intentionally ignored the stories about Andy's comments...

At this point? I'm not believing anything, nor stressing over rumors, denials, etc. :D

I just figure things will play out the way they're going to play out.

Let's not forget how vehement the denials of a reunion or tour of any kind were, just back in January.

No New Song For The Police

Personily I think everyone has to give it a break.

The Police are doing a world tour, can't we enjoy this without the speculation.

All I want to see is my band playing together again and I am sure most fans are.

There are dvd's coming, concerts, live recordings.

I can't we be happy enough with that? I am!

I will not believe anything unless I hear it from this site in the news

I personally believe Andy's words more than offcial statements...

Heh he may have been being more "honest" than he was supposed to...<grin>

I think the best way to stop all this craziness is for TPT to provide some "news" rather than just combatting the gossip and rumors that have resulted from people being excited...without much news to go on...so the "news" gets made up LOL...

That's what I'm thinking.

i think they're keeping it under wraps, just like the tour... if they are working on new stuff, they aren't going to let some newspaper hack steal their thunder. new material from the police is a very sensitive subject, especially among the police themselves, and is obviously something we all want... i think andy was speaking loosely, maybe revealing more than he should have... and bless him for that. haha...

off subject: gina, where'd you get your avatar photo?

I seem to recall an interview with Sting from February or March in which he said that he didn't know if the rehearsals and tour would lead to a new song or an album, but that he hoped so. That kind of a statement is all I need to hear. :)

I have to agree with sockii. There is no point in jumping the gun about a new album or new songs. We should just all be content that they are finally touring again. If the tour presents itself with something new then thats a bonus for all of us.

Avatar was from the gallery at Sockii's bitchin Stewart website: tookooltokalypso.org

I'm afraid that when the official statement (even though countering corrosive rumors, which is a good thing to do) seems somewhat contradictory to what some of the members have said, it'll only make things worse {hope not}...nothing to see here move along <grin> only heightens the looky-lou's curiousity...and we're still over 6 weeks till opening night...we need real news! <grin>

Yup, that's what I thought after that London reading as well. A bunch of headlines popped up on that day alone. The Daily News crap pushed it over the edge.

Each of the three have expressed hope/interest/curiosity/possiblities for stuff in various ways, and lots of news outlets have tried to turn them into fact. No surprise. As Mark Twain might say, "Reports of my new album have been greatly exaggerated." Doesn't mean it will or won't happen -- just means they ain't talking. And rightly so.

When The Boys are ready to tell us something, they will. In the meantime, I'm glad to see them trying to quell some of the bull, if only for their own sanity.

Precisely. I'm sure that whatever they're jamming must be awesome, particularly from the way that Andy spoke of it. BUT they've got bigger fish to fry for the immediate future. Plus, the jamming might also be (amongst other theories) variations on the old material -- in which case, we may see some of it this summer. Only time (and The Boys) will tell.

[Edited a billion times cuz I'm a moron.]

sad, but... well, the tour will be good anyway.

I am a bit disappointed to hear these news, but who knows if they will not change their minds? ;)
