"Stewart Copeland" -- THE SONG -- by Sparky's Flaw

This might be old news to others, but this sure is news to me:

There is an 8 1/2-minute (!) pop song by a band called Sparky's Flaw titled "Stewart Copeland" (from an EP called One Small Step) available on the iTunes Music Store.

Seriously.

I have not yet gotten the guts to buy it: I'm tempted yet scared somehow. The most I can tell you from the preview is that the first line of the chorus is "Stewart Copeland says it doesn't even matter."

Congratulations, Stewart! You're a song!

Looks like they on Myspace, also...
What do you get when you combine a "Mr. Roboto" intro dance, incredible amount of teenage energy, radio ready acoustic driven pop/rock, and an old school horn section (including a tuba)? Your standard Sparky's Flaw show. Starting out from their lowly roots as your typical high school rock band, Sparky's Flaw has grown into a band much more than the label entails. Already selling over 1000+ copies of their first album, "Live From the Recording Studio," while still in high school, the bands latest recording venture at Crystalphonic Recording Studio with Kevin McNoldy reflects how much this band has matured both in their song-writing and musically as a band since their early years.
Nice time to release it, they'll get a good number of Police fans buying it.

Did they have to ask your permission before they could release it?

Downloaded it out of curiosity...$.99 is too easy to part with on iTunes...not sure how I'd feel about it if it was me:

The reason for that final show
As (?) folklore goes
He said too fast while you said too slow
And all the world's forgotten when it's gone
I can't say what happened to you but
All I know is you left it all behind

But Stewart Copeland says it doesn't even matter
Stewart Copeland says today is the last day
Stewart Copeland says it was worth it for a while
and maybe it's not worth it if you're gonna leave this way

It's enough to say
I think you're fine
It's easier said than done
To go out on the top
To leave it all behind

I can't see why
You ever let this go
I wish that I could tell you
Everything I've come to know

So Stewart -- please don't go
I'm telling you, because you need to know
That Jim Morrison's crying in his grave
And the day that you left is the day that the gods got back what you'd taken away

Are you out there?
Stewart can you hear me?
Are you out there?
Just not listening?
Stewart don't
Don't leave this all behind
Stewart

There's not a lot I know for sure
But I know this much is true
I'd rather fade away
Than disappear for good
So Stewart don't
Don't leave this all behind

I downloaded this song by accident a while back. I appreciate the sentiment, lyrical content and snare sound but other than that I think it's pretty horrible. Sorry everyone. I know, I know - I'm mean and evil.

I do think it's really cool that someone wrote such a specific song about our lord and master though ;)

OK, so nobody here admits to authoring this, right...?

They did leave out one critical line - "In Soviet Russia, Stewart Copeland write on YOUR webpage!!"

;)

Brings a tear to me eye!

Thanks for the lyrics, W&S. And thanks to rest of Copelandia for being braver than I to be the first ones to take a gander.

Listening today I figured out and corrected a couple of the lyrics, to my ears at least. Wait & See was mostly correct. I think this is how it all goes:

The reason for that final show as common eighties folklore goes:
He said 'too fast' while you said 'too slow' and
All the world's forgotten where you've gone
I can't say what happened to you but
All I know is you left it all behind

Stewart Copeland says it doesn't even matter
Stewart Copeland says today is the last day
Stewart Copeland says it was worth it for a while
And maybe it's not worth it if you're gonna leave this way

It's enough to say
I think you'll find
It's easier said than done
To go out on the top
To leave it all behind
I can't see why
You ever let this go
I wish that I could tell you
Everything I've come to know

So Stewart please don't go...
I'm telling you because you need to know
That Jim Morrison's crying in his grave
That the day that you left was the day that the gods got back what you'd taken away

Stewart Copeland says it doesn't even matter
Stewart Copeland says today is the last day
Stewart Copeland says it was worth it for a while
And maybe it's not worth it if you're gonna leave this way

It's enough to say
I think you'll find
It's easier said than done
To go out on the top
To leave it all behind
I can't see why
You ever let this go
I wish that I could tell you
Everything I've come to know

Stewart, Stewart Copeland please don't go
Oh Stewart, Stewart Copeland

Are you out there?
Stewart can you hear me?
Are you not there,
Just not listening?

Stewart don't, don't leave this all behind.
Stewart, there's not a lot I know for sure
but I know this much is true
I'd rather fade away than disappear for good

So Stewart, don't
Don't leave this all behind
Stewart, Stewart don't
Don't leave this all behind...

Well, he *does* write operas...

(Y'all, seriously - check your local listings for those "Equalizer" reruns. I had forgotten how good that show was, helped immeasurably by Stewart's inspired score...)

And you know what? This song was released in 2005...way pre-reunion.

I have to wonder if the kids of today aren't reading all these interviews with Taylor Hawkins, et. al, and doing their homework. I suspect Stewart's got a cult following similar to the one that cropped up behind Alex Chilton once The Replacements wrote that song about him some years ago.

(Chilton kicks ass and is from Memphis. I've seen him a few times...he's one or two degrees of separation from Stewart, too - touring members of Chilton's influential band Big Star include Jon Auer and Ken Stringfellow, from Seattle; Stringfellow also plays some with Scott McCaughey, who performed with REM last night on the Rock Hall telecast...REM, the legendary IRS band, bla bla...)

Why no, I really don't have a collection of baseball cards with all of this information printed on the back, why do you ask? ;)
