Some backstage and different views on the Whisky performance...check the multimedia section out!

And hey, Conroy! You're on camera this time, too! :D

Hope we'll be getting more great stuff like this in coming months...

Well, rats...I just went to watch the Grammy rehearsal vid and it's all pixelated and weird, and won't run correctly in either Quicktime or RealPlayer. Sigh.

(Edit: A bunch of yammer over not being able to watch the videos correctly...the upshot is that the Hi-Quality versions won't work. The medium ones, however, are downloading just fine.

You have to go to a little trouble to watch the Quicktime ones if you're a Mac user...involving looking at the source of the TPT media player and then opening the stream in Quicktime. All the Quicktime streams on TPT thus far won't work - they only launch a broken window asking for a download of Quicktime - even if you already have it installed and formatted correctly.

I do wish they'd fix the aspect ratio of this last one. Everyone on it looks like a Zulu. Anyone else not having this problem...?)

>Any other Mac users having issues with TPT.com?

The media won't work at all for me via Firefox, but if I launch through Safari I can get the Real Player streams to work okay.

I'm not having any luck either. I went ahead and upgraded my account to the $100 membership thing and I tried watching it via Safari. It said I didn't have the plug-in and it directed me to downloaded the latest Quicktime which I did. After it loaded that and restarted, I'm still getting the same message that directs me to the Quicktime download page. I'm running OSX version 10.3.9

Did you try Real Player yet?

Because that's the only format that will work for me...

Don't use the Quicktime streams. The Windows Media streams are the best.

Yeah. I agree. The QT streams are a lot darker. A LOT darker.

I do wish they'd fix the high-quality streams, though. I'm on a big fat broadband pipe and can see 'em, and the medium quality ones seem to be full of scan lines and pixelations. (Sorry, I know this is a first-world, 'let them eat cake' kind of problem. ;))

The coolest thing is seeing the guys backstage where fucking Jim Morrison was kicked off and basically haggled by the owners of the Whiskey after playing "The End."

God, I love it! I'd do anything to have my band play that stage! Or just to even see it!

So far I can only get the Realplayer version to work as well. Divemistress is right, I hope they can fix the aspect ratio so we all don't look like the Coneheads. Otherwise, it was pretty cool. Thanks for the heads up, sockii!!!

It's truly a landmark for all the bands who later became huge and started out there. Now add to its history the Rehearsals show--it's already in the Wikipedia entry on the Whisky, now officially as much a part of its history as the events of lore! :)

In checking out what kind of bands play there now in anticipation of the Rehearsals (thank heavens for the web--its the only way to hurry up and wait when you are so excited that you can't really do anything substantive), it looked like about half the bookings were cover bands and it looks like it has a kinda creature-of-the-night-ish vibe...so that's the ticket!

I have always wanted to go there to & am so damned happy that the Rehearsals were televised--it at least felt like I was 50% there almost!

I wholeheartedly agree... living here in L.A. and having been in bands out here myself, I've always felt a bit funny about trying to book a gig @ the Whisky... these days it seems almost like mostly a Metal/Emo Screamo/Hardcore joint for local kids w/rich uncles... I'm pretty certain it's pay-to-play, too, like most of the Hollywood rock clubs...

BTW, I did go, even though I was never able to get in, I stood outside and heard as much as I could from outside... still a blast... I guess I felt like I was 50% there, too...

Pay-to-play?? What on earth has this world come to?

Do the bands make it up in t-shirt sales and whatnot?

I can only get the vid's to work on TPT by downloading realplayer.

With Firefox or Safari - it wil not work with Quicktime, or even Windows Media (I have installed flip4 mac so it should!)

The Synchronicty live videos - seem to have been taken offline - they never work for me!

Pay to Play - I think the Police may have had to do this once at the Marquee in London.. either that or it was a really small fee!
