Cymbal arrangement?

Did anybody notice Stewarts' current cymbal arrangement?
I remember hearing or reading that he used to set up his cymbals so that he couldn't see Sting. LOL We'll have to make sure he doesn't get his hands on a magic marker either. We don't need any writing on those drum heads. :?
Just finished watching the 1980 Rockoplast performance for the first time. That was awsome.
Cheers

To me it looks a little similar to what he's always had- a few less and a little higher. I for one would love to see somthing like "I love you jerk!" or something similiar to the same as before. Or maybe just "I am the greatest!".

ya he no longer has to sharpie "Copeland" on the bottom of his pre-Paiste Zildjians either, giggle

I wanna know the story behind the spiffy new GREEN cymbal - and where I can one for myself.

Re: the spiffy green cymbal - that is the same Paiste 20"/22" "Colorsound" ride he's been using since (I believe) the Amnesty show.

In the mid-80s Paiste, in an attempt to capitialize on the MTV generation had a line of Colored cymbals - Black/Blue/Red/Green - I myself had a full set in black - HH/2 crashes/Ride/China. It kills me to this day that I didn't hang on to them, even though sonically they left much to be desired IMHO. The ride recorded *really* well, though - funny to see it still on Stewart's kit after all these years.

Thanks for the info - I'll have to watch some tapes again, I never noticed it in the past before...

not to hijack for my own purposes (taps fingertips together) but I'll take advantage of this audience since its already a thread on cymbals (sure, yeah)--anyone used or played on PST5s? No retailer here has them in stock and although I hang out on the Paiste site (and sound room), I've yet to hear them myself...although I won't be buying anything until after...well...the Police stop touring...these Planet Z's (I know, I know) are making my ears...and eyes...bleed :)

Just an addendum:

Paiste reintroduced their colored cymbals in 1987 as an extension of their 2000 series. Dubbed "2000 COLORSOUND," they were offered in red, black and turquoise.

The overall sound of the 2000 series was warmer, dryer, and slightly darker than their counterpart series, the 3000, so the COLORSOUNDs fit in well, as they had a drier sound with more low end frequencies.

Interestingly enough, COLORSOUND cymbals were manufactured to sound very bright to compensate for the way the color process muted the cymbal sound.

Paiste's final attempt at offering colored cymbals was their VISIONS series, which only came in black, but offered a far wider choice of sizes.

I personally own a pair of 14" turquoise hi-hats and a 12" red splash. The splash is nothing to write home about but the hats are great.

I found some pics:

and a link on the Paiste site that features the Green Ride cymbal (22") on Stewart's kit:

Neat.

personally I though his paiste 602 13" medium hi hats back in the day sounded brilliant and I reckon he should be using them rather than his current paiste signatues just to give it that bit more 'authentic' Police sound.

I always loved the Rude + 2002HH sound personally (iirc)...its hard to think Paiste Rude without Stewart!

Must have been the room, 'cause I thought the ride sounded awfully good at the Whiskey. Much better than either the Grammy or Hall of Fame gigs. Those Dark Crisp hats sounded especially sweet - very shimmery. That big ol' RUDE ride was pretty awesome, though.

I'm always finding beat up red 20" rides. Black is the next easiest color to find. My new Holy Grail is a 22" blue ride.

Remember the cymbal badges that went with the cymbals? I have red, black, turquoise, and green. Ah, the weird and wonderful 80's...
