I know THE POLICE lent big influences around the world, but at the same time I think they are the one of the hardest inspiration of most bands in "Latin America" recognized as "Rock in spanish" movement.

Here are such examples of It - Let me know how do you think about it and what you considered the most close band inflenced by Andy, Stewart & Sting (The Police)

Soda Stereo - Gustavo Cerati Trio (Argentina)

Taylor Hawkins and the Coat Tail Riders is definitely influenced, if not from the drumming, but the single "Louise" has a definite Police vibe following.

Hawkins is a huge fan.

Taylor was at the Whisky "rehearsals".

Miles put together that Rock en Espanol Police tribute album back in... what '99? It was pretty good! To promote it the Jaguares played the House of Blues with Gustavo Cerati opening. There was another band on the bill, I forget their name, who did a hardcore punk/metal version of "Spirits In the Material World".

I think I heard on The Police Mailing List that Stewart and Andy were going to sit in for the Jaguares encore so I went down there and was able to pick up a ticket. The encore was awesome. Stewart came out and they did "Does Everyone Stare", then Andy joined them and they did "Demolition Man" and I believe "Message In A Bottle" all en Espanol of course. It was fantastic.

Does anyone remember they were going to do a tour? They were calling it Outlandos D'Americas, I believe. Stewart and Andy with revolving singers doing Police songs en Espanol. I had tickets in my hand to see them at the Universal Ampitheatre. After having witnessed their House of Blues set, I was truly disappointed when they pulled the plug on the tour!

They've certainly made up for that with this impending Police tour!

Omaha, in the set list I posted you will find GUSTAVO CERATI (Soda Stereo argentinian trio band) I posted two songs from this band, one sounds so close of "Walking on the moon"... Gustavo is the same who recorded with ANDY "Bring on the night" ( I remember he confessed Andy, been at THE POLICE argentinian tour 1980, and when he saw our boys on stage he was inspired to make their own band)

The one who sang in spanish with Stewart, Andy and JAGUARES was colombian singer and nowadays well known rock star "JUANES" (Black shirt - song)

The band who recorded "Spirits in the material world" at "Outlando's D'americas" album was PUYA a chilean band...

But you could find more strongly influences of THE POLICE at the links of the latinamerican bands I posted above ;)
