STEWART COPELAND

Firstly, I expect to be lynched for this but its gotta be said.

I reckon we are all living in daydreamland and i include myself as somebody who has been getting very excited of late.

If we are expecting the police with the energy and excitement of 79-83 i think we are in for a REAL BIG disapointment.

I reckon we gonna get 'mature' (meaning slow and lame) interpretations of the songs we all know and love....and i dont reckon we gonna like em much other than for nostalgia value....admittedly the nostalgia value will be a huge compensation.

I am desperatly trying to kid myself that it will be just like the old days....but it wont be...if it is thats just dandy.

I hope and believe the Stewart will play with that phenomenal energy he has always had done....the man is a megastar!

Those songs have gotta pump out ("too") fast, loud and heavy in my opinion.

If stinko gets his way (and i dont reckon he'd be doing it if he wasn't) we gonna be in for some of the laid back, middle of the road nonsense at which he has become so expert and apparently fond of. ......you

yes.....of course...he's a great song writer.....yes of course the police wouldnt be the police without him....but lets put it nicely.. he has a bit of an ego hasn't he?
Lets not forget sting has had over 20 years of being in total control of everything he does and getting things just how he wants them to be......it aint likely hes just gonna give that up for old times sake is it ?

Stinko needs to remember who the beat of the police (no pun intended) was and still is and follow his lead.

Stewart isnt recognised as one of the greatest,most innovative and infuential drummers ever for nothing.....it's cos he knows exactly what hes doing, what the beats should be and in my view how fast they should be too.

the footage of them from the induction into the hall of fame whilst admittedly not laid back is (lord forgive me for saying this) sloppy!.......yes it is!

They need to play with true fire,ferocity and passion like they have something to prove again (yes, I know they dont have anything to prove).....too many people think the police are just a lame pop group from the 80's.
They gotta prove em wrong by being fast,blistering,vibrant, loud and simply stunning again.
I want em to be able to stand up against (and ideally blow away) the best live acts that are around at the moment (muse and slipknot immediatly spring to mind ...oh yes the damned were very good recently too
and they aint spring chickens either)
I have total confidence they can do this ..if they choose to.

I expect to be hunted down and killed for these comments.

Well. Stew is just as animated and fast as he was before, weve seen that from the rock and roll hall of fame, the incubus video, oysterhead and countless other stuff. He didnt get fat and old like one would expect. And he does not play the songs slow as you are expecting. He'll refuse. Andy...well, he never really jumped around too much anyway.

Sting, who knows what he'll do; who cares. He brought back the moog pedals, so he's got the old spirit back.

BUT: Remember that the Synchronicty tour and the 86 short tour consisted of shows that were NOT ALL THAT WILD, yet were still great. 78 police and 83 police were completely different bands.

In 83 the shows were way laid back: tea in the sahara etc. I mean, listen how sting sang So Lonely on the synchonicity concert--he brought it way down and didnt even bother to sing the high notes! And that was 83!! And there are certainly no complaints about that tour.

My theory is that this tour will have the same bit of energy as the synchronicity tour- which wasnt crazy, but great all the same.

I'm not going to lynch you because there is a history there with Sting.

However, recently on his Broken Music tour he stripped it all down to a four piece with no keys and it was semi-rockin'.

I've been thinking about his motivations, and I think there are many. But maybe, just maybe, he's doing this because he had so much fun rockin' the 4 piece that he's ready to fully go at the Police songs again. He did do a lot of the old songs in those sets.

Maybe wishful thinking, but I'm hoping I'm right.

I'm going to be careful how I word this, because I don't want to sound like I'm coming down on someone who has the right to his opinion, but I think you might have this a touch "off". I re-read an old interview with Stewart today, and he was going on in detail about making 'Everyone Stares' and talking about his relationship with the other guys (I know this is a link, Gio, don't kill me...just posting the interview cause it's part of the conversation: http://www.theredalert.com/features/copeland.htm )

I really think it's more about the guys realizing you don't live forever, and coming to their relationships with each other with new sensibilities. You don't have to read many interviews with Stewart to realize he's matured over the years. Also, what do they have to lose, at this point?

Honestly? After I read that interview I chuckled to myself. Stewart started this band, and I'm glad that I now feel he's playing a much larger part in this later chapter than I earlier feared. And having seen him with Oysterhead last summer - and read his interviews and all the stuff over in Dinner Tales, which is as sharp as anything you'll ever read - I don't think he'd be caught dead playing with a crap band. I'd say the same for Andy, after having read "One Train Later."

In other words, I think this is going to rock for sure. Just some $.02. DotD

This is not only going to rock, it's going to strip the skin from our bodies and hang it to dry... then it's going to put it in the microwave.

One of the best things about all of them coming back is not just for nostalgic purposes, if it is even that at all, it's seeing where they'll be. That's what I'm most excited about and one of the reasons why I kind of would rather have a new album.

It'd be seriously great to see what Andy could write now. What would the instrumental be like? Stewart can and will always rock.. he must work out. But Sting? He can still hit notes. It will be the same band, I think. It's just going to be mature which will be the most exciting aspect to me.

If that rumor is true and we can have four new songs, fuck, I'll be overly happy.

I'm happy that anything is happening at this point. The Digipak releases had me over the edge years back, but just seeing the guys talking around made me happy.

And to think just a month ago, I thought Stewart's documentary was the closest I'd ever see a real Police show or the band itself. This is coming from someone who used to say he'd give two years of his life to see the band play a full set... yeah, ridiculous, but I can't help but be addicted to the music. It's made me feel better throughout so many aspects of my life. (e.g. ups and downs of relationships, work, school, family, etc.)

I'm on a kick and this ain't stoppin' for awhile.

2007 is the best year, the year of my five. The Police, The Pumpkins? Wow. Now they just need Kurt and Jim to be raised from the dead and have the Chili Peppers open the whole charade and I can die happy.

Well, I'm holding out on John and George. But otherwise, I'm with you all the way, my brother.
