Go-Go's Documentary with Miles & Stewart

Go-Go's Documentary with Miles & Stewart

Postby Howstupidmrbates on 05 Aug 2020 04:18

I just watched a documentary on The Go-Go's that was very interesting. Both Miles and Stewart are interviewed in it about the tour where they supported The Police and there was one or two things I had never heard - like the $6,000 it cost to make the Our lips Are Sealed video was unused money from a then-recent Police video shoot. I was always kind of fond of The Go-Go's and felt a bit of a connection since Jane Wiedlin was from the same town in the Valley that I lived in - Woodland Hills.

Great documentary!

Thank you for posting. I didn't know about the documentary. I just watched. It was very good.

As outrageous as the stories seemed to be, I think this was a cleaned-up version. Based on books and articles I've read over the years, there were many raunchy sexcapades that were not discussed... and many more interesting stories.

I'm sure a lot was cut out for time. I hope there's an extended Blu-ray version.

They also didn't mention that Andy dated one of the Go-Go's. At this moment I don't remember which one but it may have been Charlotte Caffey who co-wrote a song for Andy's first solo vocal album. He also thanks her in the liner notes. (Can someone confirm which band member he dated?) Much eye contact in this photo:

Regarding the music video for Our Lips Are Sealed, Belinda Carlisle wrote in her book that she didn't want to make the video and was quite grumpy about doing it. During the solo with Jane Wiedlin, you can see her duck her head below the steering wheel. Carlisle wrote that was her bratty display about making the video. Watch at 1:38

There are so many stories regarding the Copelands and their impact on the music business. I can't wait to read Miles Copeland's book.

I also want to add that documentary reminded me that the Go-Go's are also a kick-ass live band. Stewart was correct, they lay down an awesome groove.

I agree about this tame version. The Behind the Music documentary was more raunchy regarding the girls' play time. I even remember a mention of a so-called "sex video" with a male fan?

Also, I have been to the Our Lips fountain in Beverly Hills. It looks exactly the same. It is also the same fountain in the movie Clueless.

I did not jump in it.

This was pretty good. While I love to see anything with Miles and STEWART in it, I learned a lot. A more interesting band than I would have thought. Gets the EQ stamp of approval.

BTW How much could those GITM videos have cost to make? I love them but not exactly Synchronicity II.
