Dare To Drum Coming September 19

Hello all!

It's been a long time, and I've been away from things related to SC.net, D'Drum and the Gamelan D'Drum project...until a couple of months ago. Aside from being a full time professional musician, I dabble in doing websites. So, I was approached by John Bryant of D'Drum to help design a site for the upcoming OFFICIAL release of Dare To Drum on DVD, Blu Ray and streaming services. From John's recent Kickstarter mailer:

"On Tuesday, September 19, 2017, Kino Lorber will make our film available for downloads, streaming rentals, and DVD sales on iTunes, Amazon, Vimeo, and many other online sources. And as an important bonus, not only will the 85 minute documentary be delivered, but also added as a part of the package will be the concert film of the full 30 minute, 3 movement work that is the centerpiece of Dare To Drum. Both films presented in 5.1 Surround Sound."

The original DVD/Blu cover art has been updated. You can see the new design, along with other information, a trailer, images, etc. at

http://www.daretodrumfilm.com

I would appreciate feedback on the website, but please be nice. I don't work for a large, fancy design firm. Just little ol' me.

Take care!

Bump since Gizmodrome isn't the only exciting Stewart things being released in this exciting month.

Very excited to see this DVD.

I was excited, since there was the chance to get the audio CD.

But that one was campaign backer exclusive, and I did not have enough free dollars at that point. I am less excited now, since I cannot own a copy anymore.

I loved this DVD. Really makes me appreciate Stewart as a composer.

Gamelan D'Drum is my favorite Stewart composition even though he doesn't play one.

Highly recommended.

Will there be a way to purchase some sort of recording of Gamelan?

The premiere performance (attended by several Nutters) is a bonus on the DVD but I have not heard of it being released on a CD or other audio listening.

Most likely will never happen when you factor into account the royalties for the orchestra and all. Your best bet is to get the DVD (only about $18 from Walmart.com with two day free shipping) and rip the audio track from the performance. However, for some reason they edited out most of Jamal's solo at the beginning of Lesung, the third movement, which is a shame because it was awesome. They also edited most of the ovation at the end was equally as bummer to me.

I compared the DVD version with an audio version I have via youtube. The DVD performance cuts out a nearly 2 minutes of drumming at the beginning of Lesung. I suspect there might have been space concerns on the DVD, but the drumming is a good intro to the best of the three movements.

Oh, so you( I ) CAN buy a DVD?? I thought it was backer-exclusive.

And of course I know how to extract DVD audio!

Oh, and the website is just fine. Don't worry about it.

Yes, I ordered mine last Monday at Walmart.com and it was delivered last Wednesday. I really wanted to buy it in a brick and mortar store but those days are long gone it seems. :(

Sorry to bring back an old thread, but I finally got around to watching Dare to Drum last night on Amazon Prime. I thought it was really well done and D'Drum played some very interesting stuff. Of course, Stewart's composition process was fascinating, as it always it. Too bad Dallas, Texas was hit with an unusually bad winter storm when they were trying to have rehearsals and two performances were cancelled. Great music though!

I also watched it on Prime last weekend and I agree that it was great. The best part, however, was the four standing ovations and the guy yelling “Do it again, man!”
