Hi all,

Did you see that Andy released a new record: http://andysummers.com/album/metal-dog ?
He played all the instruments.
Just listening to it on itunes, I like it, actually I really like his solo work.

Just listened to it on Spotify. The record starts off with quite a different sound than usual. But later progresses to more standard Andy. Some of it somewhat reminded me of his work with Fripp. A little.

I will have to listen to it a few more times before I can make a real judgment. It is certainly not bad. But time will tell how good it really is. Certainly worth a listen by anyone who like's Andy's solo stuff. Not sure if it will win over any new fans. I can definitely say it is much better than the whatever Zero band he was last with. Much.

The guitar on the title track is very STEWART like (the drums are not).

Track 2 - Animal Chatter would have sounded awesome with STEWART on drums. And Sting on bass as well (Ten Summoner Tales era).

Am I the only one who can't imagine Andy playing drums?

I have listened to it and can't say I like it that much.

As EQ says, it is not bad. But it didn't do much for me. Far from one of my favorite Andy albums. I like the title song.

More than once when listening to it, I wondered if the song was done yet because it seemed that it should be. That is not what is supposed to happen when listening to a song.

Also agree with EQ that it reminds a little of the work with Robert Fripp.

As noted by a reviewer on Amazon, it also is reminiscent of his CDs Mysterious Barricades, the Golden Wire and Synesthesia. None of those are Andy albums I am very fond of.

I disagree with EQ in that I liked the Circus Zero stuff more, even though I didn't love that much either.

I report here as well what I wrote on the News Section:

There's a lot to say about this new album; I have listened to it carefully but it's so full of ideas that it will take me some time to get into it.
One thing's for sure: Andy will never stop creating and evolving, trying to find new ways of communicate with music. He doesn't stand looking at the past, he goes on and on and on. Even with the Circa Zero album, that is a complete differend kind of work, you could listen to his attitude in experimenting, searching for some new strategies to play with his guitar. Now, in this record, he experiment a lot with guitars as well as percussions and rhythms, sounds and atmospheres. I don't know how to classify a record like this new one, but I can tell it's a real fusion of styles and ideas, breaking barriers.
I'm sure that in a year from now I will still discover something listening to it.
Thanks again Andy.

I plan on buying bis records chronologically. Which means XYZ and Golden Wire will come first.
