World Premiere! "Light a Candle! The Story Behind the Human Rights Concerts" (2013, 40 min. Dir. Peter Shelton) This new documentary traces the history of Amnesty’s human rights benefits from their roots in the "Secret Policeman’s Ball" shows of the 1970s & 1980s to Amnesty's concerts and tours of the 1980s & 1990s. Features brand-new interviews with Bruce Springsteen, Sting, Pete Townshend, Peter Gabriel, Bono and previously unseen historic footage. Program also includes the world premiere of a short Peter Gabriel home movie shot during Amnesty's 1986 tour, and a short animation anthology (curated by Aardman Animation) illustrating the Universal Declaration of Human Rights - with a specially-created soundtrack by David Byrne, Laurie Anderson, Danny Elfman and Mark Mothersbaugh and voiced by Jeff Bridges and Debra Winger.

Got my tickets. This will be just like the Everyone Stares premiere! Andy and Stewart together again. I wonder if Stewart will make the same joke about Sting being in the back - which faked us all out and made us look!

He might be in the back this time...

Strictly by coincidence, the third member of the trio — Sting — happens to be in the area to perform Monday, Nov. 4, at Magicopolis in Santa Monica, but there’s no word on whether he could join his former band mates at the screening.

Would it be so hard to put this out on blu ray as well?! It's not the 90's anymore...

Sadly, there are no more tickets for Sting's appearance at the Cherry Tree deal apparently.

It was a fun time. A fair sized crowd. Some autograph hunters created a bit of a stink in the lobby before the film, but otherwise it went off smoothly. Andy and Stewart signed many many pieces of Police related memorabilia and posed for pictures. Martin Lewis MC'd the event and shared his stories and then the 90 minute highlight film was shown. Some of the footage looked clearly dated, as having been taped in the 80's, but looked surprisingly good on the big screen and the sound was just great. A discussion followed with Martin, a former prisoner of conscience and Stewart and Andy. I had heard the pillow fight story before, but not the reason they did it - which was due to quite a scary landing attempt in Chicago on the first tour. Stewart downplayed the artists involvement in the Amnesty process, but he was just being humble. At this point I had to leave due to a previous engagement, but a short documentary and an animated film was to follow. I can't comment on these since I didn't see them, but it was a fun afternoon. Even got a photo with Andy, although it was a bit blurry! lol Oh well.
