A Police-related conversation

When my next door neighbor saw me wearing one of my Police shirts, she said, "Oh, the Police. I like to listen to the Police."

My 3 and a half year old son then added, "I like to listen to fire trucks." :). (He was not referring to Paul McCartney's group the Fireman.)

My son right now loves fire trucks and firemen. I need to work on his appreciation of the band the Police.

When I still lived at home as a teenager, my bedroom walls and even the ceiling were plastered with posters and album promo art - Sting/Police, MJ, Madonna, the Asia dragon, etc. My nieces were just toddlers, but when they came into my room - Sting was the one person they could identify on sight. Naming my cat Sting probably helped.

My daughter knew all the words to every Police album by the time she was 4 as I used to play tapes in my little black mini everywhere we went.

However, one time the radio/cassette player (God I'm showing my age) got stolen from the car the night before a long drive. My 4 year old daughter was so cross that when we had to slow down because of an accident on the M3 she hung out of the window and shouted to the patrol officer. "Oi! Pleaseman! Some man's nicked my radio!"

I am expecting my first Grandchild in December and he/she will get a proper musical education too. It's important to share such things with future generations don't you think?

My 2-year-old is fascinated with my many cases of cassette tapes. He loves to pop them in and out of the tape player and push all the buttons. Older boy (almost 9) loves any 80s music. When he was 2 or 3, I'd pop in the Police greatest hits DVD and dance him to sleep.

Hmmmm. Come to think of it I have some nieces and nephews getting about to the age I can warp and distort their musical sensibilities.... They're coming to see me next week.... Time to burn some CDs!
