According to the El Rey website, Andy and his new band Circa Zero are playing Thurs July 25th. Tickets go on sale this Friday for $25. I'm so happy they chose L.A. for their live debut.
Andy back on the stage!!!!

What can I say - they are an absolutely fantastic band! Andy sounded great. Rob was amazing, and Emmanuelle - a girl on drums! - she rocked it. They started the 70 minute set with the new "Levitation" and then continued to rock the El Rey with new music presumably from the new CD. (Sadly, they didn't announce the song titles, but who cares?!) The tunes are very cathcy, very "Police-y." Alot of times they opened up the middle to improvise just as The Police did.
Andy's wife and kids were there. One of his sons was right behind me most of the show. Even saw Denise Crosby (Tasha Yar on Star Trek) in the crowd. The El Rey is such a cozy place to see an intimate show. And Circa Zero certainly gave us such a show.
I have high hopes for this band. I hope they tour like crazy and take over the world!

Thanks so much for the update - I've been dying to hear some news on the show and been wondering/worried it's been so quiet!

My goodness, I forgot to mention! ----
We were treated to a great version of Behind My Camel!!!!! Sadly, the only Police tune of the night, but what a nice surprise.
The crowd went beserk.

Seems like Andy's having fun.
But....
Looks like another case of vertical video syndrome! (See below for an important community announcement about that)...

Here is a very positive review of the show:

July 27th, 2013 by Alex Kluft
Legendary Police guitarist Andy Summers debuted his new band Circa Zero Thursday night at the El Rey Theatre. The band consists of Summers and Rob Giles (bass, lead vocals) with Emmanuelle Caplette (Drums). This is a real band not a solo group as Summers mentioned in an interview we did recently. The crowd ranged from young adults to adults that had grown up with the The Police’s music. From the few tracks I had heard from their debut album which has yet to be released, I knew that the band would be great live especially with Summer’s background. To really see how great this band is you must see them live once they announce more dates. They’re a real rock band not pop, indie, or alternative. Circa Zero took the stage at 10 PM and played the album all the way through. No matter what style Summers is playing, his guitar work is always phenomenal. It was hard to believe that I had not heard Giles (The Rescues, Solo) before as he has one of the greatest rock voices I’ve heard in a long time for newer artists. Giles is also a great bassist. Caplette is easily one of the best female drummers and was so happy to be there playing as she was smiling the whole time. Summers always chooses the best to play with and this group shows that. The best part was seeing Andy Summers up and close at a small venue since the last time Summers played L.A. it was the Hollywood Bowl with The Police. Currently there is no release date for their first album, but there’s a short clip from the studio on the Circa Zero website if you want to hear how great they sound. If you’re a fan of real rock music you must check this band out. Here’s where you can see the interview with Summers.

Thanks for the great report from the show.
I heard Andy play Levitation on the radio show he hosted. It was great. It sounded like a cross between the Police and U2. I really want to hear the album and the band play live.
Was the place packed? Was the crowd rowdy? Did any of the band members talk? What did they say? Did you shoot any clips?
Andy said in an interview that they were recording the show- I assume he meant video. He also said a lot of record company reps were attending.
And they played Behind My Camel! Awesome. Take that, Sting.

jerseyfan: the crowd was large, but the venue didn't appear sold out. We're not as "rowdy" as we used to be. The median age in the joint was probably 47. We want to listen to the music, not carry on. There was very little talking between songs. Mostly Rob saying thanks to everyone. Andy only spoke twice, mostly the same thing - thanks, is everyone having fun, etc. I didn't notice any recording taking place, so most likely it was audio only. Andy once told me he has virtually every live show he's ever done in his vault. I personally did not do any recording. It's all in my head.

I would love to have access to that vault.

Thanks, bates.
It sounds like it was a great and exciting night of music.
I hope when Circa Zero expand their set, they will consider a couple of songs from Andy's XYZ album. There are several gems there that really deserve a resurrection.
