I still think the reason(s) was not only because of such cynical things as stated in the article. And probably the 3 of them, even Sting, hoped at one moment something magic could happen during this reunion tour. Unfortunately, it didn't.
Maybe one day we'll get inner sources that will explain clearly what happened or not.

As for the rest, I guess we only can dream that something new regarding The Police will take shape in some unreleased material waiting to appear for more than 30 years by now. But even that seems unlikely to happen.

Sad, but on the money, drummike. It's difficult to play for the joy of it when you are being micromanaged to the Nth degree. I know that Sting wrote the majority of their songs, certainly the popular hits, but it reaaly took the creative energy and musical talents of all three to create The Police sound, which still sounds fresh.

There were lots of magic moments during the reunion tour, both for the band members and their fans. And there was a lot of crappy moments too. Stewart's book describes many of both types of moments. I'd say he's a pretty good inner source. I know he had to be diplomatic with some stuff and not entirely forthright about everything. I agree that it's a shame no new material came from the reunion. Nonetheless, the reunion tour did result in some moments of true joy. And for that, I'll always be grateful that the guys got together again and I won't dwell too much on their motives for doing so.
