HOLY CRAP NUTTERS! FRANKENSTORM'S A COMIN!

The media has things good and stirred up talking about the potential for the biggest storm in 100 years!
BGE so helpfully called to assure me they're prepared for the "very real' possibility of power outages. We'll see about that.
Looks like we're in for a soggy Halloween.
I'm pretty well prepared but I think I'll try to scare up some more batteries, bottled water and cat food at Tarjay on the way home from work. I know there are a lot of Nutters up and down the East coast.
I hope everyone stays safe and dry! Pop in and let us know how you're doing!

I was noticing just today all the trees weakened by the derecho earlier this year that have yet to come down will probably result in massive power outages that I fear could last for days if the anticipated long duration of high winds and rain holds true. I made soup last night to get of rid of stuff in the freezer so I don't wind up throwing away a lot of unused food if that happens.
I also find the media hype interesting as this major even coincides with the start of the Nielsen ratings November sweeps yesterday and the around-the-clock coverage that a major weather event such as this will bring mean high ratings and more ad revenue (as if the windfall in revenue they have gotten from the current Presidential $campaign hasn't been enough).
Anyway, hope everyone stays safe, especially those who got battered by Irene last year who increasingly also seem to be in the cross-hairs for the Frankenstorm.

Doom and gloom on the TV now. We are just beginning to get some light rain (Williamsburg), but it's still mild (57F).

I don't mean to sound like some sort of experimentalist wacko. But I'm curious to see how this pans out. The media and weather stations are acting like this is an event of Biblical proportions. I'm not seeing anything that I haven't seen many times before.
Take what I'm saying with a grain of salt here, I'm not anywhere near this, so I have no real ethos in the matter. Will keep everyone in my prayers regardless. Stay safe and keep us updated!

On the plus side, vespa and I are stranded in Venice for 3 more days thanks to the storm. Oh, the hardship!
On the minus side, that means we have no idea what's going to happen to our house in the storm. And our six kitties. The catsitters are leaving extra food in place tomorrow before the worst of the storm hits in case they can't make it by that evening and on Tuesday but still, it's anxious-making to the extreme not being at home to even make preparations (plus one of the cats is diabetic - not majorly but it means I'll probably have to get his insulin all rebalanced if he misses more than a day or two plus if the fridge goes out that's a month's supply down the drain. Among many other things...)

Oh, sockii, that"s dreadful. Fingers crossed. And please update us ASAP.
In addition to all the "fear of God" warnings they are predicting snow around Richmond by Tuesday. One leaking window, but I've still got power. The storm is 270 miles southeast of me and won't be due east until tomorrow afternoon

We're getting prepared here in Toronto, too. By the time it gets to us very late Monday night, the storm will have lost some strength but it will slam into a cold front that has been lingering here since Friday and giving us on and off rain for the last three days. We're likely in for some flooding, high winds and power outages. There's an outside chance of snow too.
Stay safe everyone.

I still have power (and coffee!). They keep changing the story, but the storm is supposed to be due east of Virginia this afternoon. The wind and rain have picked up dramatically this morning. The direction of the wind will shift later and more flooding is predicted.

The worst of it is supposed to come through here after dark tonight. So far it is just heavy rain and some wind but that is supposed to change in a few hours when the wind is supposed to pick up.

^Yep, same here, only heavier wind, lighter rain thus far. Air smells pretty great outside right now actually. Not looking forward to the bumps in the dark tonight, but we have water and food and booze and coffee (right on, LT) ready.
