Reunion

I wish I could say yes, it's true, but I still don't know exactly the answer, because I guess the answer isn't ready yet.

I guess all the parts involved are 'talking' about it; my opinion is that it will take some time to get a definitive confirmation; the Daily Mirror got the news from A&M, and all the other medias in the world got the news from the Daily Mirror; I just got tons of messages and sms from people reading about this, and in Italy you know I'm considered 'THE ONE WHO KNOW THE TRUTH', due to my position with the record company, the promoters, and of course Stewart, Sting and Andy.

Let's expect then a few weeks, the word is out and this time it really seems true....but we all know that Stewart won't leave us disappointed in letting us know something as soon as there is something to know, positive or negative that is.

Ciao ciao
Giovanni

Ps.: not bad as first post of the year!

Lol, I jumped straight to "it's true", and started celebrating. My eyes found what they wanted. Damn.

But it's not true until Stewart says so.

Come on, don't leave us hangin'!

Giovanni, it seems like we started the year in the same mood. Let me quote what you wrote, it’s exactly how I have always seen the things. For me it doesn’t matter if it’s immediate or takes 1 or 2 years more to happen. It will have nothing to do with an anniversary. It will be a new starting point between the 3 same characters, but not as a “boy’s band made to fill stadiums”.

A NEW HYBRID SOUND.

based on complementarities of the huge experience of each of them (and maybe other musicians).

You wrote:
>> This time it's not a joke ... but I personally would say that so many companies are involved that I wouldn't be surprised if it won't happen...of course I wish it will go to the end, I mean if they are talking about it I wish they will find the right terms; it's about managers, lawyers, publishers, labels, money, time...and love (the most important thing), love for a band, love for music, for the fans...I'm sure they will consider this as well.

I do not expect THE POLICE like they were, it will be about Sting, Andy Summers and Stewart Copeland, do you know what I mean.

Ciao ciao

Well this is certainly an interesting way to start the new year...

I would i magine it would be a limited number of dates if it happened at all and it would be to promote new material such as the Police Around the World DVD. I dont think the band would become a going concern again, i see a one-off tour of major cities. Still dont think Stingo is interested, I think he would do it to shut everyone up about it. :P

I am crossing my fingers and toes for this.

A few of the english newspapers ran the story again today...

I'm already thinking of possible venues where they might play...

I'm thinking that in June the new Wembley stadium might be open... if the builders actually finish it by then...

Well,… « garçon,.. un demi s’il vous plait », excuse me…i ‘ve just ordered a beer… (you know french terrasses ?)
…yes, the thing is that at the moment right now, there is nothing decided. No date has been confirmed. Not even for the gigs in America (Gizmo + Andy Summers). So EVERYTHING is possible.
And this is exactly why Jose is right to ask the question about the reunion again. He thinks it’s for historical reasons (anniversary), The article in news paper think it would be for commercial reasons (issues of new cd, dvd, etc.), I personally stand for artistic reasons (they are ready now).

We are right to wonder NOW, I mean today, if we want it or not. When it will be confirmed officially, of course everyone will say :
“have you seen : I’ve always said it would happen, I am so happy”.

Instead of waiting to read it somewhere, we can clearly contribute to something. Look, some people do an amazing job (almost professional… but for free, with passion). Lot of the people here and on other forums are real musicians. There is a certain quality in the discussions. Of course I don’t speak about me, I have a proper job and speak to much with a lot of mistakes. But the FREE (Gio : +, not +/-!) staff of this site is amazing. I have the much important respect for artists.

At the opposite, I dislike the basic fan who loves Sting for his charisma and considers the police as a ‘Boy’s band’. This includes some 14 years old girls and 60 years old real self called true rocker.
The concept of THE POLICE is mist for me. What is important is only 1 thing THE MUSIC.

I really like Sting’s work (not his face, his work), including the talent for music and the capacity to take new directions in his career, such as leaving Newcastle and start from 0 again, stopping the Police, doing a major tour with his lute music (not just 1 cd for Christmas as a joke), etc… … all this within 1 and only goal : going forward in his experience of music.

I am too young to have had any chance to see Bach at work. But I really love the music of the Master, go to different concerts. It’s in a way the same for the Police : when I bought my first tape, a cassette (how do you call it?) it was Ghost In The Machine, one or two weeks after I bought all the other albums in 1 buy. And I had it, the complete catalogue ! such as I can buy the complete repertoire of back in 1 box. All this music was already updated. It was archive. We where already in 1986, the police where legends not an existing band. I’ am not from the generation who actually really lived the period this music was made.
So, I have absolutely no nostalgia of the 3 pretty gays. An anniversary tour, such as the Rock And Roll Hall of Fame gig, would be much ridiculous for me ! “Non merci.”

Sting was right for splitting the police, because he made so incredible things. The point is that he is slightly became boring (except for the lute) during the last few years. And some collaboration with guys as Stewart and Andy, or even other very talented musicians who feel able to say to him, right in the eyes, the sings he doesn’t want to hear… could have the much better effect!!!

THINGS HAVE TO CHANGE,
I don’t want those remixes of the police songs. It’s enough now! What I don’t accept, from Sting, and therefore I often made critics, is that he is still playing 50 % of Police material, even today, even on the lute. He does a BIG mistake ! If he had enough from Stewart and Andy, he should have been consequent. I say I’ve enough from the police songs (Broken Music Tour was not good). I prefer to listen to them on my radio, in original :
No Sting, you are not Bach or Beethoven ! You need help, and look what you have in front of you :
Mister Andy and Mister Stewart are still there.

PS – Yest I have hunger of good music in 2007! Respect & peace
PS2 - to giovanni - hope you still have you office phone number, or here again: happy new year
PS3 - happy new year

They had to wait...

... until Ahmet Ertegun died?

Welcome back, me. I was for some reason not able to post for months.

So, I have mixed feelings about the reunion. Because *my* motivation for wanting a reunion would be that it would be cool. But I can't imagine it being all that great if it is like the synchronicity tour. Can you imagine hearing a song like 'landlord' stingified? (not that they'd play landlord)

"I don't want to occupy a house, apartment, or flat, leasing from a tyrant with your troubling despotic personality..."

Of course, life is way too short, and I'd go every night I could feasibly go, buy the corresponding DVD that just happens to come out in late November, and embrace my inner corporate fanboy, but would I be able to brag about it afterwards? That's the question.

Cheers all and felice anno nuovo- Grant

of coulce they could play landlord why not? I have heard Sting playing next to you a few years ago. They can play what they want this would be ok. it would be pure fun. I hope sting has a real sens sor that : for interpreting songs. not only for creating songs. He is not that bad at singing, playing and boying both together.

Sting : more musician and less composer
Stewart and andy : more composer and less musicians
and the compromise for a reunion hapens!

Hi Philip-- yes the could play landlord, but it's not really a hit. In 90
minutes with 5+ albums to cover, well let's just say 'Sacrifices must be made.' I don't think that landlord would even make the first cut.
They will probably throw in something like 'peanuts' amongst the 'king of pain's, (did I punctuate that correctly?) but it wouldn't be a whiole show of
my preferences. And NB: I am restraining prognosticating their putative set list before the deal gets done :) :! :}

I think it's just the oposite. Sting's a great song writer, but he's never been fantastic at any instrument he's picked up (not that he's bad), he even says he's always surounded himself by talented Musicians, and now he has Domonic.... his "right hand man", who can play the things he can't handle.

Hi Giovanni! Hi all !
This is an incredible news!
I Have seen Sting talking recently on an italian-tv show about a possible police reunion...and as he often has done in the past has not given a favourable opinion for a possible reunion of the police...
now this news it's really FANTASTIC, very emotional!
