Dietmar <3 Posting an OT thread, no less <grin> I have to tell you that Pat (who was in the kitchen making breakfast) asked: "is that Peter Gabriel?" Great stuff...

For LA- based nutters, he's taping a performance on Jimmie Kimmel Live February 1st. Tickets are free for 1iota.com members. I've seen many "mini" concerts like this...

*facepalm* Wow, I've been hearing this song all over the place the past few months and was wondering why something was calling to me...you're right about the Sting-vocal comparison, seriously!

Yeah, the album has a lot I really like on it. I am totally indebted to Spotify for allowing me to try so much new music for one price. *addicted*

I'm going to quibble with Dietmar: if you're considering the vocal only then it's 63.33333 (recurring) % OT. There are some nice rhythmic touches in there though which might bring it closer to the 50% mark. (It made the free press in London today. Thanks for posting this Dietmar, because mostly the free press in London doesn't know it's arse from it's elbow and I ignore it!)

He came to visit our local Southern California public radio station for his US debut and my favorite music program "Morning Becomes Eclectic"
http://www.kcrw.com/music/programs/mb/m ... term=gotyeCheck out the interview portion at the 17 minute mark or so. He seems really cool, he talks jokingly about being an "overnight sensation" after making music since he was 15.
Check out the comment section. One listener said QUOTE :Hi Gotye you are the best selling artist in Poland we love you ! waiting for concerts ......
Your album is so fresh and full of amazing ideas like many years ago Police Synchronicity END QUOTE
He says in the interview he considers himself primarily a drummer and recalls when his parents got him his first drum kit but now is busy with composing and production
Does that bump it up to 75% OT
Here is the You Tube clip of the song performance from that morning
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6YzGOq42zLkIt is up to 1,280,939 views

I like it. It's like modern '80s-meets-bouncy Twin Peaks.
The chorus vocals are pretty trippy. I've never heard of this guy: is it pronounced like "Got-Ya," or only in my head?
ETA: Thanks for that KCRW link, Throb, and for the original, D.
ETAagain: Ohhh, like "Gautier." Ignore second to last, please.
ETAyetagain (yes, I may be talking to myself here): Sting, Peter Gabriel, but there's someone else '80sish in his voice that I can't quite pinpoint -- like, the singer from Asia or Yes or something?

One of the KCRW comments said QUOTE Sure knows how to whip-up an 80's pop hit.
1 part Asia, 1 part Mike + Mechanics, 2 parts Sting
then garnish with a children's song intro. UNQUOTE
Not sure where the children's song intro comes from.

I may be at the El Rey gig, since I live around the corner
And Dive, watch out. It's a black hole of time suck. But I LOVE it. New music. All I can eat. And we know I'm insatiable!
