QUOTE

Everyone Who Has Used Ticketmaster In The Last 12 Years Is Getting A Refund

If you used Ticketmaster's website to buy tickets between October 21, 1999 and October 19, 2011, you're in for a windfall.
Well, a $1.50 per ticket order windfall.
Because of a proposed class action settlement, Ticketmaster is being forced to credit $1.50 per ticket order (up to 17 orders) to customers due to the fact that they profited off of "processing fees" without declaring as much.
And despite the reparations, Ticketmaster can continue to profit off transactions — they just have to say they're doing so on their website.
According to court documents, the original claim, filed October 21, 2003, also implicates UPS' delivery price for expedited delivery of tickets as deceptive. Those part of the UPS subclass of the suit are entitled to an additional $5.00 credit per ticket. Both credits are in the form of vouchers, which can be redeemed a maximum of two at a time.
This could end up costing Ticketmaster a hefty amount of money. If, in any given year over the four-year redemption period, less than $11.25 million is redeemed by customers, Ticketmaster is going to donate the remainder to charity.
Also, the Counsel attorneys plan to ask for an award of up to $16,500,000 in attorneys’ fees and expenses, as well as $20,000 to the two plaintiffs who brought forward the class action in the first place.
Don't expect your credits quite yet, though. Credits won't be issued prior to April 15, 2012, and should come within 30 days after Final Approval of the settlement (currently scheduled for May 29, 2012).

Hey, it isn't much but at least it's something. I still despise them though.

Thanks for the scoop, EQ.

I figure it was probably a pay off for the Ticketbastart/Vile Nation merger.

I'd be very much looking forward to my $20-something, but for this:

"Both credits are in the form of vouchers, which can be redeemed a maximum of two at a time."

So we have to spend much more money at Ticketmaster to benefit.

Gee, thanks.

Yes, I noticed that too. The credit goes toward future purchases. Let's face it, I'll be buying tix from them until they go under, so no problem there. It's better than nothing. I've also noticed that they are detailing the fees up front now, which shows you the true cost, not a deceptively low cost.

Yes, it's weird but I doubt I'll stop buying tickets...there are some up and coming alternatives but my purchases are more driven by artist than vendor...

This reminds me of a quote from the Simpsons that I have used here before:
Burns: [chuckles] And to think, Smithers: you laughed when I bought TicketMaster. "Nobody's going to pay a 100% service charge."
Smithers: Well, it's a policy that ensures a healthy mix of the rich and the ignorant, sir.
Very true, that. It's like with air travel for me. Sure I think certain airlines are better than others and I hate that an advertised $300 ticket actually ends up costs $700 due to "gas and taxes"...but if I want to visit a certain location halfway across the world, I can't swim there or take a bus. And I'm not going to miss the chance to travel just because I think the airlines are a racket - same with going to concerts. It sucks but there it is. I want to see a particular artist play, I've got to pay whoever is selling the tickets.

That said, when I can get a great ticket at less than cost on the secondary market, I'm all for it...thought Ticketbastard and their ilk still got their SS's for it up front anyway....
