http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=D6itFMuO6Osthe stone roses reform and announce a world tour. (hurrah)
7 minutes in, Mani (drummer) name checks some of his influences, including the maestro, in response to an old stone roses quote that they wanted to "free the world from U2"

That's actually Reni. Mani is the bassist (who ALMOST played with Stewart when Mad For The Racket played the UK).

That press conference almost made me want to buy a ticket to a gig. Almost, but not quite.
If Reni does a stand up tour I'll be there. Someone get him on QI - he'd be fabulous.
(Edited because I knew the drummer's name began with R but got it wrong in the middle on my first attempt.)

I guess I'm one of the few Americans who got to see them - at the Fillmore in San Francisco a day or two before Squire broke his arm ending their only US tour. They were great - though it wasn't the REAL Roses as Reni had just quit. His replacement just couldn't live up to him. I had heard bootlegs so I was nervous that Ian would be flat the whole show, but he sounded good. (After seeing him solo a couple times I vowed to not see him live again, though I keep buying the records. I had decided he just can't sing live until I watched him on a live BBC session where he sounded great. I think it's a matter of whether or not he can hear himself in the mix. Here's hoping he has a really good monitor on the Roses tour!)
Anyway, I'm really excited about this. If I could, I'd fly to the UK for the opening shows!

At first I thought this was a joke (re: the reformation), but when I found out it was true I couldn't help but laugh out loud!
In the heat of nostalgia people tend to forget their last album was a hunk of egotistic hyperboled fluff! (In my opinion of course).
