I am gonna be recording in a small room so I have been looking into more compact drum kits.
I am a TAMA guy but Pearl has a "traveller" kit which is kinda what I mean. Doesn't have to be high end, just has to hold up to playing, need a small kik drum at the very least.
I have an old set of Superstars that are the deep type, 24 kik.
PS. on the cheap I may tru to use a tom as a kick, want a puny footprint.
- any cheap idea's ?
Cheers dudes.

Hey BB,
this little beauty from Gretsch has it going on:
http://www.gretschdrums.com/?fa=drums&sid=575#sizesKick is 18", 12" rack tom, 14" floor tom & 14" snare.
No doubt it would sound great for recording (mahogany shells).
Small it is, cheap it ain't.

That's a trick kit!
Unfortunately, "inexpensive" and "drums" cannot be used in the same sentence.
Good luck with it though, BB. Be sure to post a pic when you get it together.
Peace, yo.

You could check out the Tama Stagestar kits, which consist of an 18" bass, 10 and 12" rack toms, and a 14" floor tom; they may also be marketed as part of the Imperialstar series.
If you're interested in re-purposing individual drums, you could convert a 16 or 18" floor tom to a bass drum, attach a 10 or 12" rack tom to a stand and put some floor tom legs on a 13 or 14" rack tom.

Thanks guys. That Gretch kit is very nice, too bad about the pricetag (and colours).
I think re-using what I have will work. Using a 16 tom on a side stand may do the trick.
I wanted to be sure there wasn't some cheap puny 3 piece kit out there I didn't know about.
Cheers I'll let ya know.
BB.
