2007-THE POLICE reunion for their 30th anniversary!

Postby Jose on 18 Dec 2006 03:45

Isn't an insane idea... At an Andy's recent interview he sliced the probability of a POLICE reunion to celebrate their 30th Anniversary (1977 - 2007) He said that isn't a bad idea...

Why not in August? That's the month in 1977 Andy, Stewart & Sting plays for the first time in the Mont the Marsan Punk Festival!

Any tour of Stewart with "Gizmmo" on August 2007?
Any book tour of Andy on August 2007?
Any concert dates of Sting "Labirynth Classical Album" on August 2007?

If nothing disturb our blond boys, why not thinking in a reunion to celebrate this important date and at the same time close with a golden brooch their successfull career?

Some clues about it from Stewart or Miles?

Five years ago when I first started listening to The Police, I thought I would have a chance to see them during their anniversary year, now I'm thinking it's VERY unlikley.

Would be fucking awesome though, we'll dream. If it ever happens, I think it would be when everyone least expected it.

regarding the exact terms of the question, I voted: impossible

if they re-band, it won't have anything to do with an anniversary. looking backward is incompatible with Sting’s philosophy. if the arrogant and incredible musician we all love shows his face on stage with Andy and Stewart, it won’t be for a few gigs, but because of a new starting project. personally, i thing in short terms, it can happen.

Philip j'espere que votres affirmations sera transformer en mon rêves ensuite

I think Sting would needs a new refresh into the media industry and a POLICE reunion is a great excuse to will turn him flashes again from their classical "Lathymun Album"...

August or September? Summer time for a great reunion!

I'd be first on line for tickets, but in my humble opinion

NOT GOING TO HAPPEN

I think Sting has absolutely zero interest, and seems as if (from what I've read), the guys dont even ask him about it. Sting would have to be the one who initiates it, and I just dont see it happening - he seems to think it would be 'going backwards' or similar. I'm not even sure he looks back fondly on his days with the Police. I think a good part of him resents the fact that 20 years after they last played publicly together, a vast majority of people identify him with the Police. He always had that 'I dont need these guys' thing going (Stewart and Andy have both attested to that) and for whatever reason it p1sses him off that he can't be thought of more as a solo artist.

Of course I'm no psychiatrist, and I really dont have any idea what the hell i'm talking about. :)

Naw, I'm with you. Whatever Sting does, you know everyone will forever ask him about getting together again with Stewart and Andy.

Hahahahah! Karmic justice, if you ask me. ;)

This evening, I LOADED UP on CDs at the 80%-off sale over at Tower Records (they went bankrupt, you *would not believe* the haul of discs I got for 2 and 3 dollars each...just insane...tons of Brazilian music and electronica, the new Golden Smog disc...etc) Anyway, I mentioned to the checkout guy while he was scanning my stuff that I hung out here a lot. He didn't miss a beat before he said, "Yeah, Copeland was really the one that held that band together, wasn't he?"

(Yes, I did hit the Copeland section, Oysterhead, anything else I could think of, but all that stuff was long gone before the inventory hit 80% markdown...)

I've never found any in any of the cd shops around here, I always have to get his stuff online.

Well, just forgive Sting if he doesn't want to do it...

Anyway, I still loving The Police's music and it doesn't matter if they will never reunite again.

Crikey! Can you imagine the mass hysteria on this board if it turns out to be true? We'd all lose control of our bladders I suspect!

Marshmallow Jones 1 : < …a vast majority of people identify him with the Police >
This is probably true in English speaking countries. But here, in Europe (at least among fhe people around me), Sting is clearly known as “Sting”. We have no big knowledge of history of rock and roll, except for our local figures. If you ask people less than 35 if they know the police… they would say “who?”. If you ask them if they like the man singing with Cheb Mami and now on lute. They would say :
- yes, it’s Sting, I’ve heard something on radio, and isn’t he in a pub for jaguar? I love jaguars. He is a pretty guy for… how old is he? he’s vegetarian and practices yoga. And he did this song Fragile, I really love.
Here, among the young generation, police is not relevant at all, but Sting.

Captain Blood: < That´s maybe interesting:…>
I’m wondering if there is no misunderstanding with the reunion of SC and AS with ASL for some gigs in South America. This is clearly a project that should happen in the coming month, according to ASL himself.

Hannaha : <Crikey! Can you imagine the mass hysteria on this board if it turns out to be true? We'd all lose control of our bladders I suspect!>
One Year ago, I regreted being one of the few persons seriously thinking they will re-band. Now, there are more and more people thinking it can happen. At even some thinking they can do more than just a last tour and then hara-kiri ! I say it, I’m not more psychiatrist than “Marshmallow Jones” but just a listener of the music we get.

By the way, STAWART’s latest stuff is really fantastic. As Sting has less inspiration nowadays… this makes STEWART in situation to offer something very interesting to Sting.

Divemistress of the Dark : < Naw, I'm with you. Whatever Sting does, you know everyone will forever ask him about getting together again with Stewart and Andy.>
Except if he does it !

Concentrate on the essential, because:
Its all a game, Youre not the same, Your famous name, The price of fame, O no -- try to liberate me, I said o no -- stay and irritate me, to elevate me, I said o no -- just a fallen hero, Dont wanna hear about the drugs youre taking, Dont wanna read about the love youre making, Dont wanna hear about the life youre faking, Dont wanna read about the muck theyre raking, You sang your song, For much too long
The songs theyre wrong, The bread has gone, O no -- try to liberate me, I said o no -- stay and irritate me, I said o no -- try to elevate me, I said o no -- just a fallen hero, Dont wanna hear about the drugs youre taking, Dont wanna read about the love youre making, Dont wanna hear about the life youre faking, Dont wanna read about the muck theyre raking, Dont wanna find out what youve been taking, Dont wanna read about the love youre making, Dont wanna hear about the life youre faking, Dont wanna read about the muck theyre raking…
…you know the rest…

According from "Captain Blood" post...There is the originaly post about THE POLICE 2007 reunion:

According to U2's stage manager Rocko Reedy, The Police are reuniting for a tour in 2007! I've been sitting on this for a week now. Hope I don't get anyone in trouble by posting this! I was a huge Police fan back in high school before I got into U2, so it's been tough to keep this under wraps!

Here's the scoop...

I carpooled to and from the U2 concert in Honolulu last Saturday with Mandi and a group of her friends. I met Mandi in Chicago during Elevation and again in Hawaii back in April. We all met up at Wailana Coffee House in Honolulu early Sunday morning after the concert. One of Mandi's friends, her name is Nico, works in the music business and knows Rocko. She had some big news to tell us. Nico ran into Rocko last Saturday and talked with him for a little while. She asked him what his plans were now that the U2 tour was ending. Rocko said he'd find another band's tour to work next year. Then he dropped the bombshell. Rocko told her he's already been approached to work The Police reunion tour next year! That's pretty much all I know. Didn't hear any more details as to when this tour is supposed to start, where they'll be playing. And why they decided to reunite. This definitely came as a shock as I was under the impression those guys still don't get along very well. I remember reading an interview with Stewart or Andy saying a Police reunion would never happen. Expecting them to record another album together might be out of the question with the egos involved, but perhaps they could pull off a tour.
As big a Police fan as I was back in high school, I never did get to see them perform live in concert. Perhaps I'll finally get my chance next year! I'll be cautiously optimistic until I hear some official announcement made.

PS: Originally posted at http://forum.interference.com/t170438.html but I based my prediction on Andy Summers interview and the logical 30th anniversay (August 1977 - August 2007) Don't imagine THE POLICE jumping or dancing like in "Synchronicity Tour" Nowadays they are mature musicians and perhaps their newest versions of THE POLICE catalogue will be a bit difference according themselves and their audience! Hope to see them reunite again and enjoying them live for first time..Praying for they would perform some gig in South America!
