2011 Rock Hall of Fame Induction ceremony

2011 Rock Hall of Fame Induction ceremony

Did anyone else watch? My first thought was snooozefest, but it was better than I thought it would be.

Alice Cooper - He's not my thing, but at least he rocks and is unique. I like a few of his songs. He seemed nice, as odd as that sounds, lol.
Neil Diamond - He's a good songwriter, but rock? What am I missing here? This is when I think it should be called the Pop Hall of Fame if they are going to include people like him.
Dr. John - I only know one of his songs. JMO, but, I don't think one song should get you in, especially when someone like RUSH continues to be excluded. Maybe there's something I don't know about him that makes him worthy. Or these nomination folks have officially gone off the reservation.
Darlene Love - I admit, I never heard of her, but her bio sounds impressive. I'm all for women getting recognition, so I'm fine with her induction. I like watching these ceremonies to find out about people like her.
Tom Waits - I've heard the name but don't know any of his songs. Another head scratcher.
Leon Russell - I had never heard of him until he started working with Elton John recently, but his acceptance speech brought tears to my eyes. He thanked Elton for picking up out of a ditch by the side of the road of his life, and sounded genuinely appreciative. His bio was impressive also.

I wonder who the nominees for next year will be?

Can't beat the class of 2003 :-)

Anybody but KISS. Come to think of it, I'm going to text my buddy and ask him why Neil Diamond is in and KISS isn't

I didn't watch, the Rock and Roll hall of fame is waaaay off of my radar screen.

I do think you have a pretty narrow definition of Rock and Roll, because in my book Neil Diamond was a shoe-in and Tom Waits is practically a living legend.

Just my humble opinion. I didn't say Neil wasn't a good artist/songwriter, just that I questioned the "rock" bit.

Tom Waits was also a wonderfully deranged Renfield in the 1992 version of Dracula: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WaVZmo8CsGQ

FWIW, they've been re-running it on Palladia all week. Bummed I missed the original broadcast (since the re-broadcast is heavily edited) but for some reason they always run the thing on a Monday night...?!

I really enjoyed the Alice Cooper segment, for some weird reason. It was fun to see those little kids dressed up like the bad man hisself. ;)
