"ES:TPIO" hits 2,455 on Amazon; Stewart on Podcast

Postby Divemistress of the Dark on 15 Dec 2006 05:49

Um, guys? I just looked at the Amazon "Everyone Stares" page [ http://tinyurl.com/uwdb2 ] ...and darned if the thing isn't #2455 on the DVD sales chart.

Now. Of course it'd be great for Stewart if the DVD were #1 on the sales chart. Phone ringing off the hook, Stew sitting around with his feet up, lighting cigars with dollar bills...but consider the competition: Every movie ever made. "Citizen Kane". "Bridge Over the River Kwai." "Cool Hand Luke."

I think #2455 is pretty damn spiffy for the leader of our humble tribe. I think I'll buy another copy, just to see if we can hit 2454. ;)

[Update: Just ambled back to Amazon for the link, and found this:

http://www.amazon.com/gp/gss/detail/10840

Stew's on right at 13:00. The recording was all full of dropouts when I listened, but it's got some slightly different verbiage than what we're used to. The interviewer's kind of a dud, but SC does a good job with what he's given to work with. At least there were no "Police reunion" questions.

All right, STEWART, we're ready for some updates on your media schedule! Whenever you're ready...]

I wonder how many DVD's are out there.

It the first DVD I haven't downloaded since.... Synchronicity (don't worry it's not up). Overly honest, huh?

And why did you choose thoes movies, when you could have chosen some good movies?

How do you download DVDs?

I picked those movies because many critics consider them, along with a bunch of movies by Sam Peckinpah, to be modern classics. You might really like "Cool Hand Luke," but it might be kind of...what's the word...boring to you.

What are some flicks you like? I'm not a huge movie hound, but I guess I've spent my share of nights at the cineplex, with my feet glued to the floor with spilled Coke and Junior Mints.

(This month I've spent a bunch of time in front of the Billy Bob Thornton classic "Bad Santa." That movie is so, so wrong, and yet so, so hilarious.)

>>How do you download DVDs? <<

So much to teach you!

Some of my favorite movies:

-Hook
-The Princess Bride
-Back to the Future Trilogy
-Raising Arizona
-Clerks (1 & 2, not so much for the rest)
-Anything Adam Sandler
-Hocus Pocus (had a crush on the human Binks when I was a kid)
-Don't Tell Mom the Babysitter's Dead (favorite as a kid)
-Pretty Woman

>>(This month I've spent a bunch of time in front of the Billy Bob Thornton classic "Bad Santa." That movie is so, so wrong, and yet so, so hilarious.)<<
My sis lovs him, but that movie is hilarios. Love the end where the kid kicks the bully in the balls.

Well, I'm not such an old fogey I don't know about Bittorrent, but I've got some setting I keep meaning to override in my firewall client, and every download takes forever.

I'll download something if I can't find it on Ebay or in a record store, but usually only after I've exhausted a few traditional sources. I do like to support artists I admire by actually buying their works, but I'm a bit more flush with cash than I was back when I was a student, I suppose.

Guess I also like buying DVDs cause you get voiceovers by the director and nifty extras. The ones with Andy S make it worthwhile to buy ES:TPIO, if you ask me.

[I think we're xposting]

I figure you've already got all the Matrix movies, eh? I liked the first one pretty well, 2 & 3 not so much.

I'm also a fan of the Lord of the Rings flicks...saw the real Mt. Doom when I visited New Zealand last year...Viggo Mortensen, hubba hubba, what can I say. ;) Lately have also been enjoying the second Pirates of the Caribbean movie.

I guess I also like some more obscure titles, but I suspect you'd think those were boring too. ;))

I have more respect for music, and do pay for it.

>>I figure you've already got all the Matrix movies, eh?<<
I fell asleep during number two, never bothered to see it the rest of the way, or with number 3.

>>Viggo Mortensen, hubba hubba, what can I say<<
If it wasan't for him, I probably would have just sparknoted how it ends.

I was gonna say...

Lets hear them.

>>Former drummer of the band THE POLICE<<
Makes it sound like he's not a drummer anymore.

I have a friend who's a huge fan of anime, and I got a pretty large kick out of Hayao Miyazaki's 'Spirited Away.' Here's more info:

http://www.strangehorizons.com/2002/200 ... away.shtml

Movies I have memorized, pretty much:

"The Big Lebowski"
"O Brother Where Art Thou" (Coen brothers, anyone? They do no wrong in my book. Friend of the family actually won a Grammy for soundtrack work on O Brother.)
"The Blues Brothers"
"Jaws"
"Bad Santa"
"Pulp Fiction" (who doesn't?)
"Bob Roberts"

Actors I love: Sam Jackson, Natalie Portman, Donald Sutherland, Viggo (he's a great visual artist and photographer and has terrific politics, too), Henry Rollins...

I really think you ought to at least try to watch "Cool Hand Luke." You might get a kick out of it. If you do, post here & let me know.

Any chance you mean Sameul L Jackson?

Your leaving out classics like:
-Clueless
-Ferris Buler's Day off
-Weird Science
-Pretty in Pink
-The Breakfast Club
-Cool Runnings
