Matisyahu's cover of Message In A Bottle

Have you guys heard it? I'm not a fan of rap and there is a rap section that doesn't do much for me, but the rest of the song is pretty cool. I think he pays homage to our boys and you can tell he loves the song. It's much better than the train wreck cover of Every Breath that Puff Daddy did. Oh, that's right, it wasn't a cover, just a sample of the song. Andy mentioned at his book signing in NYC that he didn't see a dime from that even though his guitar is the most prominent part of the sample.

I kinda love it! All sorts of strange stuff going on with the time signatures...

I just bought Matisyahu's last record at the Tower going out of business sale, but I haven't listened to it yet. Apparently he was wandering around in the crowd at Bonnaroo last year.

Loving all the footage of the blondes in the video!! And the reggae! Oh yeah!

Well, no accounting for taste, I guess. I think it's terrific.

Hanna, mine worked fine on Safari...yesterday it was timing out, so try again tomorrow.

Yeah the reggae bit was cool, but early on he tried to do high notes, and his voice kept braking.

Dive, get thee to a stereo and pop that disc in ASAP. Matis is an absolutely incredible performer and the most vital new musical discovery i've made in the last year. You should hear what you're missing!! I haven't heard the message cover yet, but i will be picking up the new cd/dvd combo tomorrow (if i can find it around here). I don't think it has the video, but the song is on the cd in two versions, including a dub. I'm really looking forward to it!

Yea their last album was good straight reggae. It's wierd because this song is not in their style at all. The singer always has that kinda raspy, breaky sound to his voice....it didn't really come off too good in that version. At least it was really live.

I think they should have done "Message" in a full dub reggae style (stylee!)

That would have suited them better...you should always make the song your own, in my view anyway.

It's just plain "nutty" to try and sound like the Police. I know, I had a band that tried, we always sounded best when we did our own thing.

These guys ARE a good reggae band though.
Cheers.
