tp.com is no more?

I just went to check on thepolice.com, hoping against hope that there'd be some mention of Stewart's concerto on the homepage rather than, say, breaking news on Sting's most recent pedicure. And, holy jumping! The site jumps almost immediately to Sting.com. No shit! I thought I accidentally touched a link or something, but after three or four tries, the same thing kept happening. I know that nobody has been able to post anything on the site since December, so I suppose I should have seen this coming. Still, I thought the site would have a more dignified death than being eaten alive by Sting.com.

yeah, i had that last night....
wierdly tho the front page of tp.com flashes up for a millisecond and one can just make out the yellow headers, quote of the day and shot of Stews book.....before then going, as you've said, to gordo.con.....
and the viewer is confronted by those (faintly disturbing) blue pictures of an odd-looking gordo in full puffy-chested, dyed-hair, photo-shopped, cheek-sucking pose-mode.... .
i think if the p'leece site has died, it's a bit, well, rude and dismissive really, no pop-up to say what the score is or links to others' sites or 'thanks for memories/loot" messages........ especially as you / one can't get into the gordo forum to post unless you pay the $45 or whatever it is to join gordo's fan club. which ain't gonna happen.
or maybe they've taken it down so they can update and change the site for the 2011 reunion tour?

is this the anniversary of the reunion going live back in '07? close to, anyway... i'm sure it was all contractually laid out back then, how long the site would run, etc. with the record biz in the crapper, its no surprise labels/promoters/sting don't want to lay out capital for "the band"... just thinking about tp.com brings back all the bitter feelings i had about the reunion/tourzilla. it was sort of one of those things where if i were a more casual fan, i'd have been able to just enjoy it and move on, but being the hardcore that i am, there were so many things surrounding it that offended my sensibilities. the more i found out about the tour, the longer it went on, the more inside stories emerged, it came close to ruining it for me.
this is just another facet of "the police" that's run its course, and sting doesn't need it anymore.

It's coming up ok for me now, although there's a message on the forum section that says:
The message boards are currently available in read-only mode while we perform scheduled maintenance. During this time you may read previous posts, but you may not add new ones. Posting rights will return early next week.
...of course, no message threads seem to have been updated since mid-December. I wouldn't be surprised if they are looking to shutter the doors for good. razorboy brings up a good point about it almost coming up on the date the reunion tour was first announced in '07...and TPTB there only ever cared about Sting anyway so why keep up the pretense that it's in anyway actually a "Police" site?

I tried earlier and got directed to sting.com but as sockii reports, it is back up now.
That is good since I can get Sting updates at tp.com again. If I want Stewart or Andy news, I come here. Andy is doing interesting things, but you couldn't tell it from his website, sadly.

Is there anything happening Andy-wise on FB...? Wish he had a forum.
And yeah, this is BS, tp.com going dead w/no warning...Not that I'm surprised.

Dive, Is it "thepolice.com" you are referring to? I just visited the thepolice.com and there was info on the band and all members individually. They hadn't updated Stewart's Gamelon d'drum concert as yet, however.

Jeff, a couple of weeks ago,the site automatically redirected people to Sting.com. This only lasted about a day or so. However, it now seems impossible to log into the community page. At least, it's impossible for me. Maybe they knew I was going to post something about Stewart's Gamelon composition, and they took evasive action.

LOL.
the most recent news topic is about gordo's Reggatta De Wank tour being extended... in the blurb about his illustrious career ("numerous accolades" etc) they say his career has produced a"a staggering list of number one songs"
i do love 'im, but I wouldn't call 5 number ones (and none on his todd, maybe 6 if you generously include "money for nothing") as particularly staggering......... considering Dizzee Rascal has only been around 7 years and has had 5 already... or that the spice girls had 9 or elvis 21....

I gotta admit I haven't logged onto TP.com in quite some time. Stewart, Andy and Henri news I can either get here or on FB, so that's mostly why I gots no love...I'm just, um...not interested in Sting's public persona. No offense intended, seriously - I agree the man is talented and I quite like some of his recent work, but I continue to feel like he's not living up to his potential.
That, and he pissed me off lately complaining about The Police reunion tour. Seriously, he ought to take a cue from Paul McCartney and just chill out about it all. There's not going to be any way he'll ever escape the long shadow cast by that band, and he should stop trying.

and the site is back up and running, the community bit is all back too.
dave n Tina / admin said that they were waiting for Live Nation to finish doing some bits but the site is more or less finished.... already there are wished rumours that the re-arrival of the site means something is stirring in policeland.
have to re-register tho, which frankly i welcome as i was on there as stephenwin, so now i am again smax...

I tried to get on today but am still running into the same problems...something about curvy corners not installed? It doesnt seem to be opertional yet for me but maybe I am doing something wrong?... but they did update something about Henri being a judge on X-Factor. I hope they don't close it down. I don't go to Sting.com much, and it does give some good info about upcoming projects. Its been almost 3 months since the community part of it has been operational, they certainly don't seem to be in a hurry to fix it, do they? Is anyone else still having problems?
