Has anyone been keeping up with the latest Dave and Co have been doing? Secret show in Santa Barbara? New album being recorded down and dirty analog style, in his garage no less? Cool stuff- can't wait for the upcoming tour, figured a few of you would probably dig this if you haven't yet seen it:

Going to have a new documentry at The South by Southwest Film Festival .

http://www.hollywoodreporter.com/blogs/ ... ding-95163

QUOTE:

The South by Southwest Film Festival rolled out its feature film program Wednesday, and among the treats is Morgan Spurlock’s The Greatest Movie Ever Sold, Errol Morris’ Tabloid, a documentary about the Foo Fighters and an early screening of Catherine Hardwicke's Red Riding Hood.

As its size and influence grows—and its movies increasingly find distribution—SXSW has felt its reputation begin to push at the boundaries of its second-tier status. The 2011 festival, which runs March 11-19 and also features panels and workshops, will include 130 features, including 60 world premieres, selected from a total of 1,792 features.

Cheers, Spec A!, I'd missed that garage tour.

For anyone else who enjoys pre-album-release teasing as much as I do, here's a fun thing: http://foofighters.fm/
The 'analogue' tuner is a nice touch.

(A quick, self-centered, 'I'm excited' footnote. I'm not a long-standing Foo Fighter enthusiast, but Lara infected me a couple of years ago. I'm seeing them in 3 weeks - and I'm giddy about hearing new stuff live before I've heard recordings. How often does that happen now?)

Yea, seems really rockin.

I like the garage vibe.

Sometimes I thought they over-produce their recordings. I saw them "acoustic" opening for Bob Dylan, way cool.

Cheers SPEC !

The outfit! Lemmy! The white limo (now that's synchronicity for those of us who went to Dallas)!

I love it!

HOW did I not see this???? Well, I have been a busy girl.

I gagged and sputtered over the Foos secret free shows which happened while snowed in in Dallas. THAT was a bummer. But after some more stalking, I managed to make it into the Troubadour, where the Foos played for 220+ of the craziest fans. Met a bunch of other FooFreaks, and bonded more with some of Lara's friends. Another great fan group.

The new album is a barn burner. Not a 'Wheels' in sight. And, to Dive's point, TONS of great guest stars and some of my favorite producers. Dare I post more spoilers?

After waiting in line for 5 hours, and then another 2 of waiting, the Foos played 3 HOURS- and then Dave wanted to play more. They literally played the entire new album, then all the hits, and when after the encores, Dave realized they had played JUST ABOUT the entire first album as well, they played the remaining 2 songs. Including a fave of mine (and Lara's) they haven't played in 16 years- 'Butterflies.'

And now, I have totally gone and overcommitted myself to QOTSA here. and a house full of FooFreaks. TOO.MUCH.FUN.

note: yes, dear friends, if you were wondering if I was glad to be back in LA, this is just one of the many reasons why. I'm home.

Reporting as ordered!

First up - set list (courtesy of the NME website - they're more likely to get it in the right order than I am)
'Bridge Burning'
'All My Life'
'Times Like These'
'White Limo'
'Learn To Fly'
'My Hero'
'Rope'
'Generator'
'Pretender'
'Up In Arms'
'Long Road To Ruin'
'Cold Day In The Sun'
'Stacked Actors'
'These Days'
'Breakout'
'Monkey Wrench'
'Hey Johnny Park!'
'Everlong'
'Young Man Blues'
'Skin And Bones'
'This Is A Call'
'Best Of You'

Despite being an NME 'thing' with 4 bands on the bill we still got a 2hr set. The new songs are fabulous - Bridge Burning was the standout for me, but White Limo is an absolute monster live. Worth the price of admission on their own. (I don't think there's going to be an acoustic tour for this record....)

Mr Grohl did an excellent job of sucking up to the crowd "This is the first proper show we've played in 2 years!" Riiight Dave: you were just messing about in LA and Brixton

Wembley Arena holds about 10,000 so it's big, but not so big that standing half way back on the floor you feel like you're watching tv. Just perfect for this band (not that I wouldn't kill to see them in a club of course). A bouncy, sweaty, loud, good-humoured crowd, driven by a bouncy, sweaty, loud, good-humoured, kick-ass band. Perfect rock gig.

I did end up feeling my age though, and not just because my knees were dodgy. I was there on my own and I got 'adopted' by a lovely bunch of teenage lads who kept trying to buy me beer between bands. We were chatting about bands we've seen and I mentioned that this was only the 3rd gig I'd been to at the Arena, The Police and Queen being the first two. "Shit, that must have been fuckin' awesome. We weren't even BORN then." Thanks guys.....

That's on a par with me overhearing my daughters teenage friends refer to me as 'The old dear'. I was 38 at the time.

Have to say though, I expect this concert was quite 'fuckin' awesome' as well.
