I wasn't sure he would do that, but everybody loved it!!!
I'm back from the church where Sting played a couple of hours ago...well, what a place to see a Sting show!
Santa Maria delle Grazie is one of the most beautiful churches of Milan and I couldn't even imagined how this show would come out as I've never seen a similar one; the color impact was amazing, as they put created some lights color on the back of the altar that ranged from purple to red and blu, and in the middle of it all a big Holy Cross was always in light; the stage was set in front of the altar, encircled with candles.
When Sting came out the crowd couldn't just be as quiet as we all use to be when we get in a church, but a flood o applause started to stop in a few seconds and to let the show begin.
Following the presenter advice, no one applauded between songs...(he didn't ask about silence, he just asked to wait the very end of the song, but this turned up to complete silence); we all just started clapping at the end of the third or fourth song (don't remember now); complete silence in between songs gave the perfect shape to an unforgettable show.
I'm afraid someone won't agree with me that Sting voice was not in the best shape, not as good as in Berlin, where he sounded perfect than ever; I think he was 'shocked' about the place (I'm sure it's not easy for anybody to perform a repertoire like that in such an impressive place); both Sting and Edin seemed to me a little 'worried' about the whole performance, but this is my personal opinion, what I felt listening to the performance, and it just came to my ears and eyes in a few moments.
The whole show in general was amazing and the crowd responded very very very very well; VIP people from tv's, radios, magazines, fashion, football, music, critics.....a crowd made of all sort of VIP's as well as fans.
I'm sorry I couldn't talk to everybody but I had tons of people turninp up sayin' :
'Are you Giovanni? Hey, do you remember about me? I got you book about Sting and The Police, wow, congrats...hey do you know where Sting goes after the show? Are you Giovanni? THAT Giovanni???....
Ok, someone said I'm more requested than THAT man...eh..eh..eh and for this reason I couldn't say hi to everybody---'sorry 'bout that!
He did more or less the same setlist of Berlin including the Robert Johnson blues but....
....isn't blues the DEVIL'S MUSIC?
'Fields Of Gold' and 'Message In A Bottle' were followed by another encore taken from the setlist performed in the evening (don't ask me titles...I don't remember them).
This is another magical night .... and you can watch it on internet in a few days. You will be thrilled!
Anyway, Sting will come and play in Italy for 3 concerts in February: one city is Milano, I don't know about the date or the other two places but I'm sure Sting.com will soon reveal them to all of us.
Ciao ciao
Giovanni
