The Police Wiki - venues

hi again

I thought of an easy way for you to help the Police Wiki.

The Wiki also features mini-pages about venues where The Police / Sting / Stewart / Andy / Henry played. Those mini-pages could use a picture of the venue - like this sample:

http://www.policefans.org/Police_wiki/i ... lo_Theater

I would guess that a lot of people live or work close to a venue and could easily make a photo. Send it to me and I'll upload it with a name credit.

Some venues like Cain's Ballroom in Tulsa, OK - show old memorabilia like a poster - a photo of that would be great, too!

you could send those pictures to the e-mail address on the bottom of the next page:

I'll be glad to, Dietmar. The Police played a dive near me called the Exit/In, on October 15, 1979. (Finally found the exact date here: http://thepoliceinconcert.free.fr/concerts.htm ...previous Googling for the date had yielded a lot of 'Last Exit' and 'Nashville Room' links...) The show must've just raged - that place is dinky tiny.

I've seen photos of both Sting & Stewart wearing a shirt from there...Sting has it on in one of the photos on the back of 'Zenyatta'. IIRC, the t-shirt looks pretty much the same...I may be able to get a photo of that too ;)

I'll try to get it done this week sometime.

ETA...Wow. Looking at that concert-date page - two weeks later they played the small town in Kansas where I lived at the time. If I had only been old enough to get in. ;) Later, when I was in college, saw Sonic Youth and one of the last Replacements shows in the same venue...I may have a photo of that place as well. I'll look. I know I have one of another middle-of-nowhere Kansas venue they played Nov. 1983, where five years later I attended my high school prom...

I'll try to get a pic of the Birmingham-Jefferson Civic Center. If I can't get up there this weekend, it'll be after I get back from Dallas. (I live half an hour south of B'ham, and it would be hard to get into town during the week before or after work with enough daylight for a good shot.)

I can get William and Mary Hall (January 25, 1982) over the weekend.

Cool! Thanks, Dietmar!

Now if we could only take pictures of all the places we wish they would play...

Hi Dietmar, The Police played Diogenes in Nijmegen. It's in walking distance from my home. The building is still there, but the club is closed. Do you want à photo from the the building now or when it was still a club?

Ha. I like it.

I'll try to get a picture of where Grendel's Lair USED to be in Philly, even if it sadly is no more. Need to look up what over venues in the area need pics....

Dietmar, this is what Huize Maas in Groningen looks nowadays - pretty much as it looked in 1977. I don't know who owns the image, but it's from the site of a local radio and tv station:

I can cover pics for venues in Pittsburgh PA - but sadly a number of the old locations are no more (Phase III in Swissvale, the Decade). The Stanley Theater is now the Benedum Center for the Performing Arts. The Civic Arena is still standing (barely), as is the Post-Gazette Pavilion. Am I missing any others for Pittsburgh?
