Tickets on Sale for Stewart's Gamelan D'Drum

Individual tickets are now for sale for Stewart's premiere of his Gamelan piece with the Dallas Symphony Orchestra and D'Drum.

Tickets for the Thursday premiere have variety of prices from $113 to $17, with many stops in between, most between $80 and $60. The $17 ones are behind the stage.

Tickets appear to slightly more expensive for the Friday and Saturday shows.

It's a pity though that the DSO site spelled StewarT's name wrong. Maybe the name Steward works better with DSO and D'Drum.

ETA: DSO quickly corrected the spelling error. In fact, if you turn over the web page, you'll see they even wrote out "Stewart" ten times. Well done!

I'm sure we can get Stewart's name corrected. One or two members of D'Drum are in the Dallas Symphony.

Well, thanks for finding the link. It's been frustrating because there's information we know in advance but can't say anything until we've cleared it with all the channels and then the DSO steps out and one-ups us time and time again.

I've said it before, but get your tickets now and book a room because it's Super Bowl Madness that weekend.

Would love to go, but it's a bit of a long-haul (and expensive) trip for me right now for one new composition (that, correct me if I'm wrong, won't actually feature Stewart performing?)

If he's going to be doing any associated events around the premiere I might revise my opinion and try to go. Otherwise too many house bills to pay off for a long time to come!

That is my understanding as well. Stewart will be there but not performing his one (but 40 minute long) composition.

Thanks, Nick, for all the research you've been doing. I definitely want to be there. The idea of hearing a gamelan concerto live sort of blows my mind regardless of the composer's presence. The chance to meet up with some of you lovely folks again makes it all the more tempting.

Group tickets sound like a good idea, but I'm hesitant to commit just yet until I have a better picture of how life around here (financial and otherwise) will pan out. I should know for sure by early September. All in all, I think it's a pretty good bet that I'll be around in Dallas for the Stewper Bowl Weekend.

I'm flying back on Stewper Bowl Sunday to avoid the post-game rush out of Dodge on Monday. Will I be able to enjoy that of which you cannot speak quite yet?

I went ahead and bought my tickets since it's still unclear who is going and I am going to multiple shows. I'll just be watching each from a different vantage point. Even if Stewart doesn't perform it, the Gamelan piece has the potential to be really cool with D'Drums and the Dallas Symphony doing the work. I suspect it would be very entertaining if the Maestro were to somehow be able to serve as conductor given his naturally animated gesticulating style that we've come to enjoy during his speeches and interviews.

The Concerto will be very cool. I'm anxious to hear because I've only heard D'Drum's parts and rough samples via Stewart of his score. To hear the DSO play it at the Meyerson will be breathtaking, for sure. If you can only make that, it'll be worth it. Right now there are discrepancies on the DSO site that list a third performance on Feb 4th or 5th, depending on the link. I'm quite sure the 5th is more correct. If some of you can only make one performance and have to leave (and I COMPLETELY understand getting the hell out of Dodge before the Super Bowlers do) you will have experienced a great piece by the Maestro.

Obviously Stewart will be thrilled to have nutters there and the members of D'Drum will appreciate the support as well. Again, more news will unfold in the next few weeks.

Will wait for the news as, at least in my case, finances are so tight it's really hard to commit to making the trip until knowing what all might actually be going on (or not.)
