Yo Nutters!

I need your love tonight.... :)

Finally got around to putting some demos by my new band, The Grand Candy, up on Facebook/Reverbnation.
Please have a listen to two of our demos: 'Made A Devil' and 'I Need Liftoff!'

Thanks Y'all! Thanks Bongo!

Youtube?
Yes, I hope. Anybody wanna make a Krypton Green Video?
I have an aversion to video having to do with not liking to look at myself.
But making a video for Devil appeals to me.

For now:
You can hear stuff, without Facebook, here:

Nutters,
I could really use your help achieving liftoff.
I need to get fans etc. to pump myself up on the local chart whizbang:
http://bit.ly/clqmQy

Please, if you might lend me your ears, join the fanlist at the link above. Doing so will put you on my mailing list, and allow you to download the two tunes for free.

If you are protective of your email, just please bookmark the site, and drop by every now and again to spin a tune and see what's new.

Thank you so much.
It's been a long, long, long time for personal reasons, since I have pursued promoting my own music.
I would greatly appreciate all the nutter-ness available for assistance.

I'm going to pull down the version of 'I Need LIftoff' that is up there in a day or two. Maybe sooner.
It needs some tweaking.
So go sooner than later if you'd like to hear that one. It's very personal.

'I Need Liftoff'
Lyrics © 2009 Daniel Cohn
Printed (?) by permission:

I need Liftoff, I need liftoff.

Once I was afraid of my shadow.
And I could not... get off the ground.
I need liftoff.

Looked to my left, rolled my eyes to the right,
but my horizon, was as black as night.
I need liftoff.

I couldn’t lift a finger. Couldn’t lift my head.
Couldn’t lift a feather, felt like I was dead.
I need liftoff.
I need liftoff.

Oh but papa, said to me...
I gave you wings, boy
but they’re no guarantee...

My wings were trapped, beneath my breath.
A tar black smoke, that smelled like death.

Once I was afraid of my shadow:
A tar black smoke, that smelled like death.

I need liftoff.

I hear that.

I am in the same place.

Your tunes sound real, very creative.

Stick to your guns Man, you'll do great!

Those songs never even exsited until you guys wrote em. Pretty cool by me.

Good Luck, Bongo the Twang n Dread .

Thanks Bongo. I updated the mix of 'Liftoff!' so if y'all heard it yesterday, it's a little different today. What fun!

FWIW, these tracks are myself and my Drummer, Jon babu. Our guitarist hasn't had a chance to play over them yet.
They are basically live. Liftoff has no guitar overdubs. Devil has two small dubs. Plenty of vocals and 'verb added to both, though.

First of all, apologies for repeatedly blaring my own horn.
This reverbnation BS is making me feel like a grandfather who can't set the clock on his VHS.

That joke alone dates the crap out of me.

Anyway, I figured out how to make it so that you could listen to a whole SONG before they try to grab your email addy.
Apologies for that. I also put up a couple of tunes from years ago that the Candy does. So now you can listen to a few, download one or two for free, I think, and not be quite so annoyed.

I'm trying out the various modes there, and crossing some t's and dotting some i's before I put the stuff up on all the distribution channels they offer. But it is very exciting.

Thanks for the inspiration, Bongo! For Police nuts, there's a song about the FBI on there now.....

I really like that Ohio song, Dan - (it's the same that was on your eponymous album, right?)

Also I'd love to hear 'Too Sweet' with a full studio treatment. That song could be rock gold. Srsly.

Thanks Dive,
Yeah, OH and Sweet are from Par Avion, I put them up because my press quotes specifically mention them.

I have, I think, a studio recorded version with my old band, Grits, of too Sweet, there's definitely a bunch of live versions. What prompted me to actually get The Candy off the ground was reviewing a lot of old Grits recordings.

Before my life took a lot of other strange turns, I was in a band called Grits with my best friend Mark. He died before we put out a proper album and it just kind of soured my appetite for the whole business. What was the point? I thought.

6 weeks ago, almost 10 years after Mark's death, I went through the tapes, spent about a month crying, and decided I needed to get my ass in gear before I was dead, too. Now I just have to figure out how to handle those old Grits recordings.

Happy Thoughts!

Thanks for listening, y'all. I'll be putting up more tunes. Please stop back, we've been gaining some decent ground with the whole 'reverbnation' local charting shwingding.

Oh, and if you want to hear someone that can actually sing, check out my student Margot MacDonald. There's a link to her page from the Candy's reverbnation page.

Wow. Thanks.

I put up some more tunes and a different mix of Liftoff that has one of those Zooropa style drastic EQ changes in bridge. Called Tight Middle Mix.

I am liking reverbnation.com Nice website. Turns out my brother knows these guys, technology nerd that he is. So I'm pretty happy with that corner of the interwebz experience.

Much like sc.net.

Thanks Plutonic

I've much enjoyed listening to your stuff on your Reverbnation page and also reading your blog.

I admit that I had to ask LT what 'Flipping the bird' meant. I thought it meant that due to a family arguement, something unfortunate might have happened to the Sunday roast chicken with your poor Mum on the receiving end. Now I know better.

My own daughter has, on occassion, flipped the bird at me too and I just do it right back because it's fun and it annoys her. I would also have flipped the bird at my own Mother except that my Father would have hunted me down and killed me...twice.

Keep up the great creative work Plutonic. I'm loving listening to it.

I think this has all the makings for it's own thread. A Canary sort of tell-all about our first "flip" or our most memorable "flip"! Hmmm.
