I visited the website of Stewart’s agent, Derek Powers, and saw a news item indicating he will be back in La Jolla and a possibly working on an opera.

http://artists4film.com/index.cfm?JID=A ... toryID=512

Here is the key paragprah:
It's the spring of 2010, and Stewart Copeland is busy writing a Concerto for Gamelan and Orchestra for a premiere in February 2011 at the Dallas Symphony's Meyerson Hall. The Concerto will be performed by Dallas Symphonyメs extraordinary percussion ensemble D'Drum, together with the Symphony Orchestra and will be conducted by new resident Conductor Jaap van Zweden. Also in process are new works for Percussion Quartets and Quintets: 'Mikrokosmos for Percusssion' together with other new Chamber works, commissioned by The La Jolla Music Society along with all of this, a rumoured return to the Opera Stage.
New Chamber works. Plural.

Since the paragraph was written in Spring 2010, it would indicate that there is a new commission for the La Jolla Music Society, not a reference to his August 2009 comissioned work.

And another hit at a possible opera.

Thanks for the scoop, Nick. It all sounds intriguing. And Derek gives credence to that rumour of an opera I recalled reading about back in September. Okay, I remembered it as a ballet, but I get all that cultural stuff mixed up.
