Though I think the Lemmy suggestion is the truly inspired one:

Who Should Replace Kevin Eubanks On 'The Tonight Show'? Our 8 Choices

Last graph:
Stewart Copeland
Weinberg proved a drummer can lead a late-night band and Copeland is one of the most respected stick men in the world, as skilled at jazz as he is with rock. His droll sense of humor, displayed in 'Strange Look Back,' his often humorous look back at his days with the Police, would be an asset to Leno, and, he is another one who would bring in top-level guests.

(SC + Bob Dylan = Strange Look Back?)

Yeah, when I think of SC, I think "that's a guy who loooooooooooves jazz."

Just like how I loooooooove Travis Barker.

If this happened I would have to Tivo it (actually I'm still using the VCR). I don't do "late" nights.

I really doubt that Stewart wants to take on this role at this point. Still would be interesting.

As he discussed in Strange Things Happen (or perhaps in Strange Look Back), he was offered the position of being the orchestra leader for the Moody Blues and joined Oysterhead instead.

I don't think I ever saw Andy when he was the band leader for Dennis Miller's show.

Stewart doesn't hate Jazz. He's just burned out by having heard so much of it at home growing up. In his own words, he's "immune to it". He's also disappointed that so little of it has changed since the bop era.

I dare you to say that the man can't swing. He swings better than many Jazz drummers.

That said, I don't think he'd enjoy being the butt of Chin Man's jokes. Eubanks should have shoved a guitar up Leno's backside years ago.

 Although being put to bed by Stewart every weeknight has some obvious appeal, I'm going to have to pass on that one.

(Cue Field of Dreams ethereal voice....) If he builds it, we will come. We would all end up loving it as long as Stewart got to be STEWART and really had control over the music.

And, I would start watching the damn show just to hear what he came up with each night. Wonder if he would keep Vicky Randles? Wonder if she would stay in the work-every-night grind?

Which brings me to...I'd be surprised if he wanted a job with daily demands of that nature. If I read between the lines of that internationalguitar interview and look at the pictures from that Hands Across Haiti fund raiser, I would surmise that he'd rather cherry-pick his projects these days and spend time enjoying his family. The tonight show seems like a personal-life-eating grind. The only project that I could imagine capturing his heart enough to take him away from his family for big chunks of time, happened a couple of years ago.

I, too, wondered the possibilities if Stewart and Vicki worked together on a regular basis. But, I don't I'd recommend anyone work anywhere near the Jay Leno show if it continues to be as horrible as it was during the recent prime time train wreck.

Where can I order a copy of "Strange Look Back", and does it come with commas?

Please. Himself has enough common sense to steer clear of Leno. (at a minimum, his kids would set him straight about how lame that would be.) Now if they were talking about Craig Ferguson, that's a show I'd stay up for.... 8)
