I know that some people from this forum like Crowded House, too.
They'll release another album and go on tour again. So far I've "only" seen UK dates in May and June and one single concert in Germany...

George, smudge, smudge's family, and I saw them play in a field in the woods in the rain a couple of years ago. Cold and wet for a while, but definitely worthwhile. Really good performance -- tight and fun.

I tried to get tickets for London, but no luck so far. I hope they make it to your neighbourhood Dietmar.

The last album didn't really grab me, but I've loved every Crowded House or sundry Finn brothers gig I've been to. If they get anywhere in spitting distance - even if you're not a big enthusiast - do go peeps.

See - this band are so good live that an exhausted, jet-lagged american sat in a camping chair in pouring rain, surrounded by yelling toddlers, and still thought it was a good gig.

I remember being impressed by the vocals especially. In addition to the band seeming just plain friendly and human and attentive to its audience, Neil Finn's voice was quite smooth. Which (sadly) is not always the case live.

They are one of my all time favorites. I saw Neil and Tim Finn play together (as the Finn Bros. not Crowded House) at the 9:30 club and they were wonderful. Considering all the time I spend singing songs from Woodface I think I need to buy that new album and see any potential new shows.

My local radio station did a great interview with Crowded House yesterday. It was interesting and quite funny and I had to pull the car over to listen as I was on my way the to the forest to walk the dogs. The dogs were cross at the delay but it's worth a listen.

They played the Ryman recently and I admit I played hooky. Despite having been a huge Split Enz fan (and having seen Tim live), I just can't quite get into CH. Is there an album I should buy? What am I missing here?

Crowded House was about as perfect a pop band as you will find.
They have lost more than a step since Paul checked out, but Neil still has his dramatic songwriting in tact.

I have been lucky enough to have talked with Neil at length in Las Vegas about his band and he seemed disinterested since the 1996 break up. Much more of a solo guy now. It was surprising to see CH back without Paul. Paul was a great presence and a powerful talent. People here need to realize its a lot like Stewart reforming The Police without Sting.

If you were only gonna buy one CD it would have to be Together Alone. Stunning talent.

i too miss paul. was living in nz when he passed, and it was virtually considered a national tragedy. dive, one of my favorite albums is a live album of neil finn and friends live from the st james theatre in auckland nz- with guests like johnny marr, eddie veder and some of the radiohead guys- as well as very very well known nz artists.

neil is a nice person, great showman, great songwriter, amazing talent.

You know, maybe I'm just put off by the extreme FM radio overplay of "Don't Dream It's Over." To this day I'll sail for the remote. Maybe I ought to give the full album a try, though.

Whoa. I have not been here in many many moons. I just can't find the time since I can't get this site at work. I miss everyone.

Anyway, I am sitting here waiting for my folks to come so we can go to a car show and wanted to pop in real quick. I saw this topic and had to comment as Neil Finn is one of my favorite lyricists. I love him so much. I was and still am a Split Enz freak. One of my favorite bands. But really, it's all Neil for me. His two solo albums, Try Whistling This (with that title track one of my faves) and One Nil are amazing. I will never tire of them.

I have to agree about CH's Together Alone as a stand out album but I do love them all. They are much more than Don't Dream It's Over, Dive. I must say, though, that there last album did not grab my complete attention. Here's hoping the new one will. They are playing in Northern VA on July 26th and I might just have to take the day for this one. I missed them touring for their last album.

Funny (embarrassing) story: Back in 2005 I took my first trip to LA to visit friends and see a lot of music from my favorite band, dada, and the guitarists side project, Mike Gurley and the Nightcaps, a lounge act. We go to the Hotel Cafe, a small hole in the wall in Hollywood and the artist, Samantha Murphy, was playing before my guy. She is an amazing singer/songwriter. She had other musicians accompanying her and after both bands played we were carousing with them at the bar. I started talking to the guy that played piano with Samantha. I asked him his name and what else he has done and he says his name and lists some bands. My memory is kind of fuzzy or maybe I am just too humiliated to remember clearly but when he said his name, it didn't register for a few seconds and when it finally did, I was too far down the trying-to-stay-LA-cool road to turn back in order to acknowledge that I was speaking to Mark Hart, keyboardist for CH's Woodface album! I could see that album in my mind and there was his face among my favorite artists, but I didn't even tell him! I just continued to act like he was just another dude in just another band!!! When my friends and I finally left, I told them what happened and they had a good chuckle at my expense. Talk about a face-palm moment.
