OT: WHO halftime

OT: WHO halftime

Postby Divemistress of the Dark on 08 Feb 2010 01:14

So what'd ya think? I thought Daltrey was pretty good but Townshend sounded the worse for wear.

But hey, it's hard to follow on the heels of The Boss. ;)

Daltrey was the more impressive of the two, but...

I thought they were incredibly good. I was impressed. Roger Daltry still has his pipes and looked great. But Pete, button your shirt dude.
Still rockin' after all these years

I was surprised how good Daltrey's voice was. However, I found the set lacking in energy. This is in contrast to how I've perceived Who shows in recent years, where the energy is abundant but Roger struggling. I guess if Roger has to sing for only 15 minutes or so, he still has it. In contrast, I think that the Who is the kind of band that needs to get on a roll in order to play their best. I suspect its tough for Pete to really play his best if he's only playing little snippets of his songs.

Overall, I'd give them a B, maybe a B+ because I really dug Zak's drum fill on Won't Get Fooled Again.

Thought the backing band was great. Daltrey and Townshend, vocally, sounded like absolute shite IMO.

Totally agree about Townshend... it was the first thing I heard. He sounded horrible. Daltrey was good for his years. ;)
Band sounded great! I liked the show. It was the only part of the game I watched.

I am sooooooo not objective when it comes to Townshend's voice. As long as he does not sound like he did on "In the Ether" off of Endless Wire, Townshend always sounds just fine to me.

The Who @ The Super Bowl only reinforced the idea that I never really cared for The Who. And now that half of them are dead, they're even worse.

Personally I love the Who and always will...but their live performances are always just this side of a trainwreck punctuated by odd moments of total brilliance. I thought they were "ok" Sunday night with a few great moments, but it's just not the right kind of venue or set for them to do. The band clearly sounded shaken up and off-time by having to do the shorted medley of songs instead of the full versions, but they seemed to be having fun with it and the stage set-up was pretty damned cool.

Did seem odd, though, that they panned away from Rog right before he was getting ready for the trademark YEEEEEEEEEEEAHHHHHHHHHHHHHH!!!! in "Who Are You"...hmmm...

Agreed.
I thought It was interesting how many times the director cut to shots of him even though a lot of the audience probably did not know who he was, probably because he had the most energy.

Just seemed like he was holding back and just wanted to take off on the drums but couldn't because the lead singer was a little slow.

Mmmm, sounds familar.....

I thought The Who rocked! A few mix issues but hey it's only Rock n Roll!
