FYI -

Them Crooked Vultures will be on Saturday Night Live on Saturday, February 6, 2010. A must see.

However, I learned this news from this article, which I found annoying. Yeah, I know. I should not even bother reading shit like this, but you know me:

QUOTE FROM ROLLING STONE:

Weekend Rock List: Best Drummers

Dave Grohl will be back behind the skins this weekend when Them Crooked Vultures serve as musical guests on Saturday Night Live. The next night, the Who will perform a handful of songs that originally featured the rapid-fire beats of Keith Moon, another drumming legend. So this weekend’s Rock List is dedicated to drummers. Tell us your picks for the best drummers of all time, and on Monday we’ll reveal the Readers’ List. Until then, here’s are a couple of greats (and a reminder to check out RS’ Greatest Singers and Greatest Guitarists stories):

• John Bonham
• Dave Grohl
• Keith Moon
• Chad Smith
• Ginger Baker

In the first 28 responses by readers, no one yet has mentioned STEWART.

Why do I read this shit?

But still. Watch TCV on SNL this weekend. Dave still aint as good as SC, but still worth watching.

They played Mind Eraser, No Chaser and New Fang. And then for the last skit of the night, Dave was in it wearing a funny wig as the drummer of an 80s punkish band reuniting during a wedding. Overall, the TCV performances were quite good.

By the way, anyone know the story behind Dave switching over from Tama to DW? I don't recall Dave using DW until TCV. At least Taylor is still using Tama . . . to my knowledge.

Regarding the Rolling Stone drummers thing, major props to this post:

There really is only one: Stewart Copeland.

And I suspect that this might be from our own Fall Out Mike:

Neil Peart
Carl Palmer
Keith Moon
Stewart Copeland

Thank-you and no particular order.

Actually I think Taylor switched to DW a couple years ago...around the time of ESP&G, if I recall correctly.

Looks like he actually switched over to Gretsch in 2007 (officially)

Here's a link that has both songs as well as the skit Dave was in. The link also has a link it in to a skit Dave and Taylor were in a few years ago.

Thanks, EQ! I'd seen the 16-bit boot yesterday morning but would have missed the higher quality one. Much appreciated. Killer stuff.

They're playing in Vegas at the Hard Rock on April 17th!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Tickets are like only $45 and $95. BUT, this is the tiny venue that McCartney sold out in seconds, so I am a bit concerned. Tix go on sale on the 13th, so I will cross my fingers.

ETA
WHOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!! I have my ticket in hand! Thank God for internet presales!

(Note: face value of ticket was $45.50 but total cost was $68.05 - $22.50 in additional fees - or almost 50% extra. Yeah, I know this is not unusual, but it still irks me every fucking time I buy a concert ticket).

WHOOOOOO-HOOOOO! Glad to hear it, Rob! You're going to have a blast.

I've relearned grade-school percentages thanks to my anger over the ticket fees bullshit. My fave is the $2 "convenience fee" to print tix at home!

ETA: If anyone wants an upload of the recent NY TCV show (FLAC-sorry), let me know. Mo and I are listening right now, and it's a damn good sounding boot.
