It was before I joined, so pre 1980. Possibly 1979. SC might have a record of it. There is more of that same footage in the EXTRAS chapter of the Everyone Stares DVD.

yeah, it’s mid-late period ‘reggatta’ tour. once thought it was from frejus, but xtc joined
the band on stage during that show for ‘so lonely’....

i just hope it isn’t one of the reggatta shows that wasn’t.. er... ‘documented’ by fans... as i’d like to hear the whole thing.

Before anyone looks it up, I would say it doesn't seem likely it's the Cairo gig at which Sting yelled at a police chief. That was in March 1980. First, because the date is after Jeff joined the team so he'd have been there; second, because I looked at the pictures from that time and Stewart's hair is shorter than in the video. Why did that gig come to mind? I remembered reading about not only the great story of Andy Summers freeing the people of Argentina, but also that there was an incident in which Sting shouted at a police chief and nearly got into trouble (as described in "The Police: A Visual Documentary by Miles," 1981 edition).

Someone has thrown a bottle to Sting. He stops singing and begins to insult and spit ! The mood in the place is really under pressure ! (You have to watch the video for more insults...) "Vas faire encouler", "You ba..ard" !

the clues:

- the ping sound at 9:24
- Andy's pink jacket (probably - but the quality is not good enough to be sure)

ooooh.... so close! just had a listen, it ain't that show - but it's in that 'run' of gigs for sure....
the ES clips don't have dates unfortunately... but we're close! i do fear it's an 'undocumented by fans' show, however.....

No, wait! This is from the Synchonicity Tour concert filmed in Atlanta in ? I bought it on DVD from Amazon 6 months ago. I even recognize the people in the audience from the same show: the outfits, hair, couples, dancing. The photographers (Godley and Creme?) used the same slo-mo type style on and off throughout.

i think it is a Hammersmith gig 'cos you can see the balcony beind the lights above Stew's head.
It's the same venue where a there is an old Roxanne clip (from around the same time) with he camera at the back of the stage showing the band from behind and facing the audience. The lights come up on the audience as the song lifts into the chorus and you see the whole place, stall and circle, on its feet.... i think it's there.... dear old hammey.

That's definitely not Frejus. My understanding of Sting's rage at Frejus was that someone threw a rock at his head. Sting would get pretty pissed at people in the audience from time to time. I think I have the bootleg from when someone tried to (or did) throw a bottle at him--Zenyatta tour, I believe but not Frejus.
