If a benefit show was planned to raise more money/supplies etc., why would this be such a bad idea? Jose suggested a similar idea in another thread and nobody said anything about that.

For those who never happened an earthquake, is like wil be the end of days.... the terrible seconds and minutes of a quake isn't comparable with anything...if your house if made by bridges and you think is the most safe and resisted structure you can't imagine how it moved like a piece of gel and if your ends time is close could be your eternal tomb... imagine after the quake without water, without communications, without food, without banks and specially without parents you lost... children and elder suffering the most... all what it happen occurred at one of poorest nations of America Continent in the Caribbean Zone ... and area that wasn't common to occur earthquakes... The change of the environment? We don't know... How world could support this chaotic and devastated situation in Haiti? UN organize the help with Red Cross and other nations of the area in Latin America, USA, Japan, Europe and the rest of the world... Haiti are without a government to guide their best food, medicine and water distributions to the affected population... First is to resolve problems such as food, water, medicines and sanitary strategies... also to burial the dead people... one other thing to do are psychological aid to the population... and second thing is the reconstruction of the city I mean first where do affected people could live...

Why some people mention about the support of music industry and musical stars? In cases like this, where a country is one of the poorest without more chances to resolves their problems by themselves without international aid, the necessity of help is very welcome... Music industry is one of the few ways to connect with people easily and fast... and musicians stars are leaders in anywhere... So, I strongly think now HAITI wants them for help... Like more of the nations who where located in America's Continent Haiti was the result of the overexploitation of their natural resources, without an strongly planning socio political organization that moves the nation to a correct path... Haiti is the result of their own politics and also from abroad... Lot of people thinks Caribbean area like fest and music, thats also correct, but is time to return by their grandiloquent contribution to worlds music...and also means modern music or rock... that's why exist different types of platforms where rock stars or music industry could support the most affected victims of Haiti Quake:

1. Making and album
2. Making Video Spots for Internet, Cell Phones and Television
3. Making Concerts
4. Using Social Networks for making Haiti Aid Messages to their fans
5. Making Stuff or Memorabilia for selling it to contribute the Haiti victims

All of it needs and organization... perhaps someone is running it against time (Geldof?) but the main fact is that this catastrophe is located in the most poorest nation of the western hemisphere... isn't like a quake happened in USA, Japan or Italy... all ideas are welcome, nobody have the law in their shout or writes... if somebody is right with their conscience contributing by a coin or bill thats the way the same if other have another way to express their thoughts and desires... If Sting, Stewart & Andy decided to contribute with something, is good...all depends on them and the ones who follows their commitment to Haiti victims... Remember the Tsunami in Indonesia? Now is time to act...and artists have the power to reach the masses

A friend of mine who has family in Haiti said that giving money is useless right now because there is nothing to buy with money! Who's in control of the money? It's not like the Haitian government isn't corrupt. There are lots of people willing to help financially but are reluctant to do so because they aren't sure that the funds will go to those in need.

Very sad situation.

it's a bad idea to want the Police to get together because of a great catastrophe
I donated money and I'm sure others did
it's not about buying something
it's about financing the people who want to help to get their and do their work
you can send your money to organizations you trust
there are a lot
the Police already gave us another 1 1/2 years of their life

You know dietmar I have always treated you with respect, this was way out of line. I could cuss back but I already made my point. There is nothing..absolutely nothing wrong with the Police reforming to play for a good cause. By the way I already donated money...twice. Stick that in your pipe and smoke it

Well, I wouldn't tell The Police what they should or shouldn't do.

But, Marsbars and Jose, I definitely think it's a beautiful thought.

OK, let me rephrase and excuse the f***

I don't think The Police playing for any good cause is a bad idea - in general.
However: "using" a catastrophe as a means of getting them together again: that's terrible.

"Let's hope for a huge tsunami next year because they didn't get together for Haiti!!"

Yes, I totally agree. I have the feeling that every disaster in the world should be an opportunity for a Police reunion.

A benefit concert for Haiti? I have nothing against that, it's just I don't think it's a good "excuse" for The Police to reform. And I'm pretty sure there are many other good bands that can help raising funds. No offense to anyone.

Let me rephrase, due to the horrible tragedy that befell on Haiti, numerous celebrities and rock stars are getting together to help out the island of Haiti. In reading about all of this, I thought it would be a good idea for the Police to get together to help bring out awareness, asking for help and point out the severity of the problem. I am not expecting a full blown reunion as a result of this tragedy. I never used the word catastrophe as getting back together. I dont get off people's misfortunes. I myself have lived through horrible earthquakes and I can tell you that it is very traumatizing. I slept in my car for three days to start off. I saw a crack form in my ceiling. My aunt's house came down like toothpicks.
