there are lots of people who will hold your hand for a fee, natch!
i've previoously done it through cd-baby who have a distribution deal on itunes and they're one of the biggets names doing this thing out there.. , cost about $35 per album or something, they get the bar code (UPC code) you need to sell a product, they and other companies (like tunecore) offer other services like artwork etc....but i should imagine you can do it for single releases and EPs n that, probably for a fee per song.
http://www.cdbaby.com/Search/bGFycA%3d%3d/0just done a quick search and there are lots of other companies doing the same thing; tho i've read some scare stories about people who didn't read the small print or paid more than $50 for UPC code (which is waaay too much apparently) or unwittingly didn't retain the rights to their songs and some tales about unreliable people who didn't get the product out and so fucked up someone's release date and promotion etc.. nightmare.... but cd-baby seem to be the big boys and have done us really well.
oh, dunno about canada tho....
let us (all) know.
