Sting was frank about a Police tour and its effect on him

"The truth is I got ill. I got physically ill. I got through it, but it wasn't easy," he said. The 2007 tour was too much of a trip down memory lane, he revealed.

"It was more difficult than I thought it would be. Psychologically speaking, that is. It was like going back to a dysfunctional marriage where all the old problems were still there."

The tour was also ambitious in scope, taking in 150 dates around the world. Sting, who has flourished since the Police, has also ruled out rumours the band would stage another reunion. He called the idea "dreadful".

More like a dysfunctional marriage where all the old problems are there but the sex is still incredible.

And by "sex" I mean "music". 8)

No reason they can't get together for the occasional one night stand.

Freakin' drama queen.

He could have just had fun with it but his severe OCD always gets in the way.

word... i remembered reading this when first posted and afterwards thought poor gordo; didn't get everything his own way for the first time in 20 years so he gets ill and poorly... bless. i'm sure thinking of the 70 million quid, the constant pampering, first class hotels, cuisine, company & transport, the adoration etc etc helped him feel better.

yeah, I was disappointed when I read the full interview in Uncut. My first thought was what happened to all the "healing" that supposedly took place and how it was "better than therapy" and "these guys are my brothers" talk that we heard about. It kinda tarnishes the whole reunion.

The other thing that still gets me is how he continues to talk about the whole unpredictability piece of reforming the Police and how that's the last thing people would expect. Enough of that already. It's like he goes into an automatic script in these interviews, just like he did on the tour with the "are you ready to siiiiiiing" and "there's 20000 people, that's 40000 hands" type of shlop. I love Sting, but man does he ever like to see himself as this spontaneous type of guy, yet to me he can be the exact opposite. Stewart, on the other hand, is much more jazz than Sting will ever be.

Well, whose idea it was? Get over it, Gordo, and keep going medieval on our asses!!!!

Gordo's responses to Police questions sound like he's been hanging out with Don Henley again. Sure, speak of how wonderful it is to be back when you're with the guys and in the moment, but once it's over and you've gone your separate ways it's suddenly less than rosy. I understand that you can't really say "this sucks" while you're still going through the tour, but this is quite an about face and makes one look like a raging hypocrite.

The other thing is even though we know how difficult Sting is, Stewart generally defends him and lauds his immense talent. I can't count the number of times Sting has been praised directly or indirectly by one of the most respected drummers of all time. I also don't know if I could remember the last thing I heard Sting say he liked about Stewart or Andy.

Ah, thank you. Now I can remember the last nice thing Sting said (he looks good too, despite being physically ill).
